Breeder regrets dog sale to Biden
Daily Local News ^ | April 9, 2009 | GRETCHEN METZ

It was a proud moment for Linda Brown when then-Vice President-elect Joe Biden selected her kennel to purchase his new German shepherd puppy.

That was in mid-December.

For Brown, that proud moment was short-lived.

After the story about the puppy sale ran in the newspapers and on TV newscasts, three dog wardens from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture showed up on Brown's doorstep for a kennel inspection.

And they showed up again and again for four visits over four months.

She said she has also received death threats from animal activists against her and Biden, which were reported to the Secret Service and the FBI.

Perhaps this is why Obama doesn't have a puppy yet, no legit breeder will sell him a dog.

Why on earth would a puppy sold to a high level politician result in harassment from the local animal inspectors? Can’t figure out the motive.

I imagine that the animal rights activists filed a bunch of false claims and videos against the show. It is their mode of operation.

I believe the intention here is to blame the Bush administration for harrassment...this happened in December.

It's a "Pennsylvania-thing". There are significant problems with the conditions at "volume breeders" in Lancaster County, PA. Actually the breeders are located in the eastern-half of the county adjacent to Chester County where I believe Biden got his dog -- so the problem spills over the line a bit.

Add to this that Peta is a major contributor to our governor, Ed Rendell. Rendell appointed an activist to oversee a re-write of the states Dog Law and basically has Lancaster County breeders are under special scrutiny.

It's amazing that Biden didn't know any of this when he purchased his dog from a PA breeder. But then Slow-Joe often "steps in it".

The Dept of Ag came out for the first inspection because of a complaint. A spokesman said it is department policy to not reveal the complainant’s name.

The thing is, the breeder was found not guilty of any of the changes. In that case, in my opinion, the name of the person who complained should be revealed, because it was a false complaint, and wasted State resources. It’s similar, to a certain degree, to a false fire alarm that somebody calls in. The complainant should be prosecuted for calling in a false report.

"I thought when Joe Biden bought a puppy from me, what an honor," Brown said. "Out of millions of breeders in the country, in the world, he picked me."

That was her first mistake. Biden didn't 'select' her business after careful study. I don't know this woman or her business, but Biden strikes me as the kind of guy who puts about as much thought into buying a dog as he would in buying a pair of socks.

That said, I would never sell a puppy to a president or VP. The dog is just a prop & would probably be left for an aide or a Secret-service agent to 'raise'.

To prove my point: Whatever happened to "Buddy the Dog", Clinton's chocolate lab? Case closed.

On Leno, Hussein said getting a dog was only a "campaign promise". Be thankful no dog has had to live with such an embarrassment.

Would you include Ronald Reagan's Cavalier King George Spaniel in that?

In interest of full disclosure, I have Sir William Thatcher, a tri-color King George.

This is a whole new issue for the libs. No purebred dogs. I kid you not. They want all dogs to be mongrels, just like all people should be mixed race. Therefore, private home kennels are being harrassed. Cat show people are really getting landed on too. Breed a litter or two of Siamese, and the inspectors can throw you in jail and confiscate your animals.

Hunting dogs should now be crossed with Pomeranians I guess. When I have time, I’ll do the research and put up a thread ......or please, someone else do it.

Sadly, yes. Any president or First Lady is too busy to attend to a dog, and the WH isn’t for pets.

You know more about this than I do, but I can tell you for sure it’s not just a Pennsylvania thing. Purebred animals ae u nder attack by the liberals. They want cats and dogs to be mongrelized, just as they believe people should be of mixed races. Like Barry, you know.

There are suits against breeders in many states, California especially. I just had a long conversation with a friend who breeds one or two litters of champion Siamese cats in her home and she’s thinking of dropping the whole thing, the harrassment is so bad. She’s in TX. So, bye-bye Siamese cats. Probably the Persians will be left alone, because they’re popular with muslims.

Someone needs to do some research and expose this situation, which is frighteningly soto voce at this time.

It's worse than that. They don't believe humans should be "manipulating dogs' genetically" or even owning them, period.

The PETA-freaks have been known to cruise breed shows opening crates (so the dogs can escape) or spraying anti-freeze in their water dishes to poison them. Bottom line: dog show exhibitors must guard their dogs against anybody who approaches in a suspicious manner. This has been going on for years.

PETA must believe that all dogs & cats should live in the wild like their forebearers.

Philadelphia network news was fast to report the complaint against the kennel. They have not since reported that the complaint was not founded.

And Jolindy is not a puppy mill - the kennel has a good reputation. IIRC, the trainer for the Delaware State Police was the one who selected the kennel. My GSD's dad is a Jolindy dog, and we took courses from the same trainer. So maybe I am a little bit prejudice, but also a little better informed than the general public (who eats up the AR crap).

WH staff has done fine in dealing with previous First Critters. It’s not like the place is vacant when the President and First Lady are elsewhere.
