President Barack Obama cant stand to be without his Entourage.
Call it a guilty pleasure, or maybe it just rings familiar to him. The HBO series about an aspiring actor features a fast-talking agent named Ari, based on the real-life brother of Obamas chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.
For less R-rated fare, he tunes into Hannah Montana or SpongeBob SquarePants in the White House with his daughters. Aides said he would have watched Monday nights NCAA championship on TiVo on his way home from Iraq Tuesday night.
Jon Stewarts smackdown of CNBCs Jim Cramer? Obama was eager to see it. But when it comes to the real news, and not the fake kind, Obama takes a pass rarely ever tuning into 24-hour cable chatter or replays of his own performances.
We usually tell him how we think he did, said longtime friend Valerie Jarrett.
In some ways, its a TV diet that doesnt seem so different than many American mens, featuring a heavy dose of sports, including that staple of the channel-surfing set, ESPNs SportsCenter.
But some of Obamas choices definitely have an edgier bent such as the HBO drama The Wire. His favorite character is Omar, a gay stickup artist who steals from drug pushers to give to the poor. (Thats not an endorsement. Hes not my favorite person, but hes a fascinating character, Obama said last year.)
When you hear he likes Entourage, you have to go, That figures, said Robert Thompson, a professor of pop culture at Syracuse University. Anything Obama does is cool by

I’ll bet al-Jazeera gets a lot of airplay as well.
Make that longtime handler.
Golly gee whiz! That Great Leader, HE sure is just like a regular guy - except for being the supra-intelligent savior of the earth thing, I mean.
Hey, Zero! Wanna play with me?
Why would the world’s most sophisticated, intelligent, uber-cool and articulate leader spend ANY time with the idiot box? It turns your brain to mush.
And why isn’t he working?!
He, just like a lot of kids like those shows.

His tv character choices are fast-talking gay con-men who steal from some to give to others. Says a lot.
Who cares what this narcissistic jacka$$ watches on TV? I’m absolutely fed up with stories like this.
How presidential of this jackass to watch this garbage!
Remember when the press took President Bush to task because he didn't bother with their outdated DNC press releases packaged as unused fishwrap?
Robert Thompson, a professor of pop culture at Syracuse University. Anything Obama does is cool by definition. Hes the Internet president, hes the BlackBerry president, and now, I suppose, he could be called the HBO president. Obama likes Entourage so much he even rearranged his campaign schedule not to miss an episode.
It's called tivo, look into it. The job of running the executive branch of the government comes first.
Of course he never misses a show about his right hand man’s brother! He’s a narcissist, what did you expect?
And Palin as well.
I think we can all agree that if an article had been written about President Bush with these exact same facts (amount of TV watched; preference for sports and sitcoms over the news; etc.), the press would be having a fit over what a dunce it showed him to be.
Does the former CEO of GM even watch TV? That would say more about Wagoner than the current GM “CEO”.
I hadn't heard that before. Is it true? If so, I like Ari a lot less.
That's sick.
