Biden warns Israel off any attack on Iran
LA Times ^ | April 8, 2009 | Paul Richter

Posted on 04/07/2009 10:53:07 PM PDT by americanophile

Reporting from Washington -- Vice President Joe Biden issued a high-level admonishment to Israel's new government Tuesday that it would be "ill advised" to launch a military strike against Iran.

Biden said in a CNN interview that he does not believe newly installed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would take such a step. Even so, his comment underscored a gap between the conservative new Israeli government and the Obama White House on a series of questions, including the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and Iran.

While the Obama administration has made a series of recent overtures to Tehran, the Israelis have grown more confrontational out of concern that the Islamic Republic's increasing nuclear know-how could one day become an existential threat.

Netanyahu signaled several times during his election campaign that he would not tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran. "I promise that if I am elected, Iran will not acquire nuclear arms," he said in one appearance, "and this implies everything necessary to carry this out."

With his brief comment Tuesday, Biden became the highest-ranking administration official to caution the Jewish state against a military strike. In the interview, Biden was asked whether he was concerned that Netanyahu might strike Iranian nuclear facilities.

"I don't believe Prime Minister Netanyahu would do that. I think he would be ill advised to do that," Biden said.

"And so my level of concern is no different than it was a year ago."

But many U.S. officials believe Israel is serious. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, head of U.S. forces in the Middle East, told senators this month that the Israeli government may be "so threatened by the prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon that it would take preemptive military action to derail or delay it."

Netanyahu on phone: “Thank you very much Mr. Biden.”

Heard in background: “(Hey David. You ready to push the button?)” (Yeah.) (Push it!)”

Biden: “OH, SH*T!!!”

Probably means it, but it’ll give him the ability to deny when Israel does what it must.

I am beginning to wonder if Obama is really the Anti-Christ? I still can’t understand how and why so many Jewish-Americans voted for this guy.

God help us all for I think things are going to get very interesting (if not scary) very soon.

Israel would be well advised to ignore Biden.

Just quote Biden, when he told us all that Obama would be tested.

Obama is doing the wrong thing, trying to discourage an Israeli attack of Iran.

An attack on Iran by Israel would cause serious problems for our troops in Iraq especially among the shias. Biden’s statements taken with Obama’s words of appeasement to the Arab world may be an attempt to mitigate some of those problems.

I think in order for Israel to survive, it is going to have to play the game the palestinians have been playing - i.e. be a pain in the ass of the world. They’re going to have to be the new bad-boys, but play the role of victims.

They should go ahead and strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, create a new reality that forces europe and the US to pick sides - will they surrender to islam or have the courage to stand by their values? If they side with islam, the US and europe will go down with israel.

Indeed. But unfortunately, Obama and England's Brown represent the lion's share of the military might of the West. Netanyahu will be largely alone. That will not stop him though, unless he feels he can wait fo Conservative support from America or Britain (which he cannot).

ok

lets say you, or I, or any of us on this forum are (imagine) Israelis, living in Israel.

suppose, even more, that we are in high positions in the government and/or military

what do we do now?

simple

change the targeting on our missiles. key in the locations of Washington D.C., London, Paris, Moscow....maybe....even...Deli...Beijing...how many nukes do we have? lots....not very big...but 1/2 kiloton is enough if delivered with an accurate vehicle

now we let some spies accidentally discover this change in some obscure internal document

problem solved.

who will sacrifice their capitol to punish the Jooos?

who will sacrifice their capitol to give the Arabs more land?

its all fun until there are consequences. its all so hypothetical and intellectual. but reality?

Israel is like a pet dog to the world powers. cute as a puppy but a problem now. think “pit bull with nuclear weapons and reliable missiles capable of reaching any point on earth”

you can’t just take this dog to the pound. and if you try to kill it....or let others try....what would you do? if you were that dog?

i would not hesitate if i were a Jew in Israel to target the real enemies of my nation. lets understand this, the Arabs cannot defeat Israel in a fight. What’s the score? 6 to 0? so the Arab states targeted the world powers to get some help....the big oil squeeze....and they are getting that help...

if i were a Jew in Israel, i would simply say (you may have hear this somewhere before) “you are either with us, or against us.”

if you choose option B

we have a little surprise for you when the $hit hits the fan.

True. But if and when Israel decides to strike Iran, then all Hell will break loose.

Iran and Russia are getting closer all the time. Most Russia's "former" satelites are muslim countries. Turkey, as muslim country, has been in the past, been "somewhat" friendly with Israel, but recently been somewhat vocally hostile towards Israel. All countries mentioned as players in the war of Gog/Magog.

The table is being set.

The speed that Bible prophesy events seem to be aligning is staggering.

Rather than listening to Biden, I hope they are paying attention to a Jewish writer of 2,000 years ago - Luke: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35)

While the context and intent were far different, the sentiment is just as true in this situation. Israel has no choice on the exchange of weapons, only on the direction. They can receive a nuclear attack, or they can intervene before that point is reached. Everyone alive knows that is the choice, but sadly many people (including Biden and the Socialist-in-Chief) would like to see Iran destroy Israel and kill their entire population. The anti-Semitic contingent just needs to buy enough time for the barbarians to get the yield, reliability, numbers, and delivery methods to complete the job.

All the nations will side against Israel!

No, that is Armageddon. it is not yet that time.

Magog is a very specific subset of nations, notably and primarily Islamic, with the possibility of a Russian or even European alliance (though not necessarily). "Magog" was traditionally Northern Turkey, though good arguments exist for both Russian and German migrations of those people, so it is hard to tell.

The main battle of Magog is said to occur in the valley of Jehoshaphat, which is the Jordan River valley South toward the Dead Sea. The main battle of Armageddon occurs on the Plain of Megiddo and up the Jezreel Valley toward Jerusalem.

They seem to be separate and distinct. The Battle of Magog does fit nicely with the War against Edom in the OT Prophets however, although one must envision it breaking east into the lands of Moab as well.

One way or another, one big can of Holy whoop-a$$ is ordered for that day... Jehovah says he will go forth before the battle as in days of old, and His people will KNOW He is the Lord!

I always wondered how the US and Britain could be sidelined for that event.

In Biden's now infamous "Mark my words" comments, he ended it with this:

"And he's going to need help . . . to stand with him. Because it's not going to be apparent initially; it's not going to be apparent that we're right."

At the time, my interpretation of that was there would be some sort of conflict with Israel and Iran, possibly due to an Israeli pre-emptive strike. Hezbollah would be unleashed on them and we would stay out of it. I believe Obama would consider it Israel's problem and want to stay out of it. I've seen nothing from Zero to this date that would make me reconsider.

“I will have good nuclear news for the honoured Iranian nation tomorrow (April 9),” Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday in a televised speech at the central city of Isfahan.
