I wrote the Air Resource Board regarding the ban on Black cars and requirement for reflective windows (to block infrared heat). I asked if the bans would apply to non-AirConditioned cars.

More to the point, If I still lived in some of the places I, or family & friends, did in California, A/C wasn't the answer; a heater was much more critical.

An A/C set to max/heat warms a car MUCH faster than waiting for the engine to get warm enough to operate heater.

"Black or other dark color" and dark seat covers could be welcome 9 or 10 months, and 'save gas' under those conditions, offsetting the A/C usage during the short, warm season.

However, that would invole allowing people to decide for themselves, what control freaks prefer to decide for you: EVERYTHING.

The California Air Resources Board has taken initial steps toward a ban on the sale of new vehicles painted black or other dark hues.

Why? Because they get so hot inside on sunny days, requiring more use of air conditioning.

Holy freakin' A! When will they stop trying to micromanage us? I can imagine in 50 years I'll sit my great-grandson on my knee and tell him the story about how in the old days we used to have black cars. And he's ask "what's a car?"
