Florida Gov't Cancels Tea Party Fearing 'Too Many Attendees'

Remember this report from our nation's history?

CNN (Continental News Network) Boston, 1773: The city of Boston canceled a proposed protest over tea taxes today, citing the fear that too many people dressed as Indians would be gathered near the wharves. Organizers expressed sadness over the cancellation, but meekly returned to their homes fearful of upsetting the officers of the Crown. Taxmen breathed a sigh of relief as the tar and feathers were put away not to be used this day.

You don't remember that pre-revolutionary history? I should say you shouldn't, because it didn't happen. But flash forward a few hundred years and you'll find it is happening today in Cape Coral, Florida where city officials canceled a tax day tea party gathering because they "feel too many people could show-up."

That's right, folks, the God-given, long-held American right to assemble and protest the actions of our government has been canceled due to too much popularity of the protest...

We no longer have any rights in this country. People in Iraq are probably freer at this point.

How can the city cancel a public gathering protest? Which article of ANY constitution gives them that right? Seems this would be a really good reason for MORE people to show up!

They should go and peacefully protest and they should all have firearms.

All city officials did was renage on a worthless piece of paper (permit) thaT stupid people desire and accept over the Constitutional protection of the right to free assembly.

the Republican party is the PROBLEM not the solution.

F*** THEM!!!

Time for a new party.

a good example would be the 70 repube congressmen who voted for the messiah’s volutary slavery bill. Who the f*** is the Republican Whip and why is he still the Whip???

I say “Screw’em”! What are they gonna do, arrest everybody? If you ask me it’s all the more reason to have it.

agree! Imagine canceling an ‘anti-war’ protest.
The British couldn’t cancel the Tea Party.
I wish I was in FLA.

Take the Constitution plus DeJonge v. Oregon, 299 U.S. 353/in Edwards v. South Carolina, 372 U.S. 229 and shove it in the Council's face.

Statist/elitist hate when “incorporation” is used against them.

You don't. The ball is in their court to support us, not vice-versa.

Individually , everyone simply inform the local govt that they are attending with many others and suggest that their govt go ahead and purchase whatever insurance or make whatever arrangements necessary to fulfill the needs of the citizens. End of discussion. Don't cave to their whining.

If the folks protesring give in and don’t show up, it will give other local / state governments the go ahead to do the same. This needs to go on as planned.

I am confused. The Constitution provides for Congress not to pass any laws that abridge freedom of speech & freedom to peacefully assemble. Does that mean our local govt’s are free to be as tyrannical as they wish, prohibiting free speech and free assembly as they see fit? Nay, I say - go to the Rally and if you are arrested, which some may be, what an honorable cause and historical company you will have in support.
