Militia report evokes flurry of criticism (Missouri)
Columbia Daily Tribune ^ | Sunday, March 22, 2009 | T.J. Greaney

A report compiled by federal and Missouri law enforcement officials has ignited a firestorm of criticism that shows no signs of letting up.

A confidential analysis on “The Modern Militia Movement” compiled by the state “fusion center” has drawn livid responses from people and groups listed in the document. State officials — including those at the Missouri Information Analysis Center in Jefferson City, which compiled and disseminated the report to police — stand behind it, contending it has been misinterpreted.

The eight-page MIAC report listed warning signs indicating someone might be a domestic terrorist or a member of a militia. The signs include: subversive literature, certain political bumper stickers and the Gadsden flag of the Revolutionary War with its “Don’t tread on me” motto.

The report also said “militia members most commonly associate with third-party political groups” and listed several political parties and their 2008 presidential candidates.

Supporters of those parties now fear their members will be profiled and are demanding an apology for assertions in the report.

“I’m a father of three, I’m a husband of one and a grandfather of six,” said Chuck Baldwin, the 2008 presidential candidate of the Constitution Party who was named in the document. “And when they read this, my family was extremely distraught.”

Baldwin said Thursday in a phone interview that he, Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul penned a joint letter to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon demanding he repudiate the report.

Govenor Jay Nixon and MIAC are not backing down. It appears we were not supposed to see this report.

From the article. "MIAC stressed it “has the highest regard” for the U.S. Constitution and the Missouri Constitution. It labeled the release of the militia report “unauthorized.”"

What’s going on with Missouri? Something in the water? That place sure has become unfriendly to freedom-loving Americans.

When did being a member of a militia, become against the law? Our Second Ammendment even talks about a militia.

...someone might be a domestic terrorist or a member of a militia...

Ok, I get that being a "domestic terrorist" is bad - witness Oklahoma City. But what is inherently bad about being in a militia? What is wrong with being prepared and skilled? If our leaders really thought they were doing a good job of being a representative republic, they'd have no fear of people's hobbies and interests. The fact that they feel threatened by them, and many want to take away our 2nd Amendment guaranteed rights, tells me they know they are doing a very poor job.

Being stereotyped in a bad image is the absolute least of my worries, all that matters is ones pureness of heart and the amount of magazines one can carry.

The report also said “militia members most commonly associate with third-party political groups” and listed several political parties and their 2008 presidential candidates.

And, of course, these bastards wholly neglect eco-terrorists and leftist third parties (Socialist, Communist, Green, etc.).

I love the idiot politicians and poly sci major’s use of the word “fusion”. If they would like to try to understand how we do such things using math, I’d enjoy watching their eyes show the “Obamaloon Glaze”.

Politics - for those who absolutely positively cannot do anything productive in life.

Evidently whoever made up this “militia list” doesn’t regard the islamic training camps as militia???? I’ve read there are quite a few throughout the United States, maybe even in MO????
