I always thought the only purpose of Saturday delivery was to EXPAND the Post Office. Lots of union jobs and OT invlovled in that move.

Yes, but will they require them to turn in their weapons?
Remember, the US Postal Service is the fourth-largest standing army in the world, and only the lack of nuclear weapons keeps it from being a superpower. /sarc>
Cheers!

3,000 jobs and offering nearly a quarter of its work force early retirement... save the agency $100 million annually.
Wow, that's some cash there.

I bet this is because many of the credit card companies stopped mailing -- I was talking it over with my wife, the number of "Pre-Approved" offers we are receiving has fallen off a cliff lately.
Cheers!

One of our neighbors works for the postal service. His wife told us that if you work for the ps for 6 yrs they cant fire you. A mailman told me there are three (3) supervisors in his city's post office who make well over $100,000 a year. Multiply that times how many post offices in this country (probably more for larger post offices)?

Could a fooled me. My truck is over full just about every day. Of course I'm just one little point of view in a behemoth. Might be due to dropped volume of retail ad circulars in areas of bambi dense voting blocks. They don't shop the same way tax/mortgage payers do.

I heard the day the post office was thinking of eliminating was "Tuesday." It's a light mail day for them. Of course what that would do to businesses who depend upon the mail is probably not important to those in charge who are more concerned about keeping their postal workers busy than what chaos it might cause businesses.

She is wrong.
Even people with 15 years are being told they either have to take a transfer to another facility 500 miles away, or they “choose” to leave.

Are the 160K early retirement “bonuses” going to be taxed at 90%?
To: IDRATHERNOT
Did they notify the workers by email?
Why the Post Office is as big as it is in the digital age is beyond me. Heads should have rolled years ago.

Combine federal government or state unions + economic recession + layoffs + disgruntled postal workers ....I'm scared. I hope you are armed and ready.
