Geithner: 'full responsibility' for AIG fiasco

US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said in an interview with CNN that he took "full responsibility" for the bonus fiasco gripping insurance giant AIG.

"It's my responsibility. I was in a position where I didn't know about those sooner, I take full responsibility for that," said Geithner on Thursday, under fire for the bonus payment at American International Group even after it was saved from collapse by injection of tax payer money.

Geithner said he was informed by his staff last Tuesday about the "full scale and scope" of the 165 million dollar bonus payment to top AIG executives, including some in the division blamed for putting the once mighty insurer on life support.

"And as soon as I heard about the full scale of these things, we moved very actively to explore every possible avenue -- legal avenue to address this problem, to make sure that, again, the assistance we were providing was not going to unduly benefit these people," he said.

I guess this is what BO means when he says Geithner is doing an “outstanding” job. Fiascos can be “outstanding”.

So, when are they going to drag him in front of Congress and grill him like a dog as they did with the AIG guy?

It think what BO said was that he was taking the blame but it was really Bush’s fault.

As part of the story I just heard on Gretta that legislation was passed today allowing Merrill Lynch executives to get their bonus’s. There is fully a 3 ring circus going on with the dimocRAT controlled Congress.

I also heard the Obama administration used AIG to filter 40 billion of our hard earned taxpayer dollars to 16 foreign banks. The Bank of France got somewhere around 11 billion and Deutsches Bank got around 5 billion.

The story keeps unraveling. The handling of the financial crisis by the dimocRAT Congress and the Obama administration has got to be the biggest boondoggle I can remember.

Sooner than when the bill was signed into law on Feb 11?

He did indeed. So I would expect he and Geithner to accept the responsibility not only in word, but in deed.

In other words...resign for the good of the country.

Another tax cheat claims responsibility. If the situation weren’t so pathetic, it would hilarious.
