LOS ANGELES, March 9 (Xinhua) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday applauded President Barack Obama for lifting funding ban on stem cell research.

"President Obama's executive order is a huge win for the millions of people who suffer from spinal cord injuries, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis and many other illnesses," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

"Californians were the first in the nation to support and fund embryonic stem cell research and we are big believers in the power of this revolutionary science to not only improve but to save lives."

Earlier on Monday, Obama abolished contentious Bush-era restraints on stem-cell research, declaring that "our government has forced what I believe is a false choice between sound science and moral values."

"I applaud President Obama for removing this barrier which allows California to maximize critical research funding so we can continue to lead the world in stem cell research," Schwarzenegger said.

In 2004, Schwarzenegger championed and California voters passed Proposition 71, devoting an unprecedented 3 billion U.S. dollars to stem cell research ...

Sigh, and would Arnold Schwarzenegger the businessman have so eagerly invested his OWN money in embryonic stem cell research?

Just who in Cali Gov decides which projects are worthy of the state taxpayers’ dough?

What an ass.

>>> "President Obama's executive order is a huge win for the millions of people who suffer from spinal cord injuries, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis and many other illnesses," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. <<<

Oh really, Arnie??

>> In 2004, Schwarzenegger championed and California voters passed Proposition 71, devoting an unprecedented 3 billion U.S. dollars to stem cell research <<

So, Mr. "Fiscal Conservative", now that it's five years later, perhaps you can point to ONE "cure" that was achieved through spending 3 billion dollars of taxpayers money. Surely after YEARS of study and BILLIONS of dollars of research, you must have dozens found by California scientists.

What? NO CURES? You mean to say that you have NOTHING to show for that 3 billion dollars of taxpayers money down the toilet? So what makes your program any different than the people "banned" from using taxpayers money to experiment on embryos. Seems those scientists "banned" from using taxpayers money to mess around with aborted human tissue have achieved more results than any of your scientists.

Yeah Arnie, so much for science being "limited". Milton Friedman is spinning in his grave at your "fiscal conservatism". The only time you've pushed "Free to Choice" in the governor's office is when it pertains to taxpayer abortion on demand.

Here’s an interesting article on CIRM’s financing woes.

They haven’t been able to tap all of that $3 billion yet and are getting more creative every day.

Obama says that if the taxpayers didn’t foot the bill, there won’t be any research.

What do you expect? Arnie’s German/Bavarian grandparents made the same moral choices during WWII. Look where that led them. The fact that our tax dollars will pay for this during a recession is just a sick afterthought.
