WASHINGTON (AP) - Trying to buck up a dispirited nation, President Barack Obama on Saturday promised that prosperous days will return and cast these bleak times as nothing less than a "great opportunity." Packing some heft with his hope, he defended his fast-moving and expensive agenda.
"We will get through this," Obama said in his weekly radio and video address, taped Friday after another week of downbeat news.
The unemployment rate climbed to 8.1 percent, the highest in more than 25 years. Stock values kept tumbling, down to their lowest levels since 1997. The latest Gallup polling finds that an anemic 20 percent of people in the United States are satisfied with the state of the nation. At least that's an improvement from the 14 percent a month earlier.
Rather than pitch ahead to his next message, Obama devoted his address to recapping what his team did this past week to help get people working and spending.
The goal was to demonstrate that the administration is on the case and, more broadly, that history shows American resilience will win.

"...Obama on Saturday promised that prosperous days will return and cast these bleak times as nothing less than a "great opportunity." "
We had "great opportunity" and more prosperous days BEFORE WE EVER HEARD OF YOU OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CommieBama can spin a line of B.S. a mile long. All I've got to say to him is "walk your talk, or shutup".
The hot air coming out of this guy puts clinton to shame, and that's saying something.
He's trying to hurry us up to hell, and I ain't buying it...or anything else he says. He comes on TV...I change the channel. Thank God for DVR's so I have something to watch besides "The Kenyan".
The print and mainstream broadcast media will be writhing in constant orgasm for the next four years - his face, like Saddam and Lenin's, will be everywhere.
Somebody please force the birth certificate issue and get this bum thrown out before we are standing in line saluting Chavez.

Oh yeah zero sees this mess as opportiunity. He sees it as opportunity to turn this nation into a marxist state, probably with himself as “Dear Leader” well beyond two terms (see my tag). Of course, even if he succeeds, there will be a Stalin (probably with the last name Clinton) to follow his Lenin, so he is screwed either way. The only question is how screwed we will be on the way - and after.

Thank God for DVR's so I have something to watch besides "The Kenyan".I say thanks for DVDs. We dont' watch broadcast TV in our home any more, and we don't have cable (if we did, it would be just for Internet access).

It’s not exclusive to this country....he’s exporting misery as well.
