I thought this was a Weekly Standard poll, but no....this is from Newsweek folks. 58% approval. I wonder at what point do the Dems see the President as a liability going into 2010. I bet if he gets below 50%, you will see the number of folks inviting him for campaing stops dwindle.

Good grief. If Newsweek admits it 58%, it's probably closer to 50%.

Never believe these liars. Rasmussen is the only one I’m paying any mind to.

My thoughts as well. This coming a week after the “best address to congress in our lifetimes.” I thought that he would be above 50 throughout 09 and I saw posts here where folks were saying he would be at 40 by January. I am not so sure that those predicting 40 were wrong. I am guessing he will be lucky to be at 50% by January.

I remember after Clinton’s “trouser trout” problem, it became a “kiss of death” for him to endorse any democRat candidate.

Where the hell do they find 33% of Republicans that Approve of the way Obama is handling his job and 18% that have no opinion??
I don’t know any Republicans that approve of Obama.

I'm starting to think at this rate the Repubs will rise from the dead and take back the house in 2010.
I didn't think this last week.

Wait until next quarter when everyone sees how much money they lost since he came into office. I don’t think the extra 10 spot a week is going to make much difference to those of us who are losing are you know whats in relatively low risk investments.

Me either. I don't believe this poll. Those numbers have to be as bogus as the person they are about. No Republican would answer a phone call from Newspeak.

Seems like the MSM is trying to go out of its way to kill off the GOP. Like the whole “leaderless GOP wondering in the woods” talk we have been hearing. Seems to me that the GOP is basically fitting all their excrement into one sock so to speak. Obviously you have your occasional party dissent, but it seems like the GOP is definitely more galvanized than it was a few months ago.

Just Like an old Bee Gee’s song:
I started some hope, which started the whole world crying,
But I didnt see that the hope wasnt me, oh no.
I started to whine, which started the whole world laughing,
Oh, if Id only seen that the joke was on me.
I listened to pols, covering my hands over my ears,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that Rushd said.
Soon theyll no that I lied, which will start the whole world living,
Oh, if Id only seen that the joke was on me.

No, it’s probably 58%. The American public takes some time to give up on newly elected Presidents, no matter how bad they do. And it’s already down from 67%.

I was reading Rasmussen a couple of weeks ago and they said that approval ratings were positive ratings minus the negative ratings, but all we see for Obama are the positive. Also, I think that they usually ask things like to you greatly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, greatly disapprove. The anything except greatly disapprove is counted as approving.

One trend that I have noted since inauguration, is that much of the undecided in these polls have shifted to “disapproval”. Not a good sign because it definitely sets a ceiling on what you can hope to get. I believe that the baseline normally accepted for a reasonable chance at reelection is 53%. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
