Gold Rush: Dems launch Operation Rushbo
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 4, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

The strategy took shape after Democrats included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans. Then the conservative talk-radio host emerged as an unapologetic critic of Barack Obama shortly before his inauguration, when even many Republicans were showering him with praise.

Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s.

Limbaugh is embracing the line of attack, suggesting a certain symbiosis between him and his political adversaries.

"The Administration is enabling me,” he wrote in an email to POLITICO. “They are expanding my profile, expanding my audience and expanding my influence. An ever larger number of people are now being exposed to the antidote to Obamaism: conservatism, as articulated by me. An ever larger number of people are now exposed to substantive warnings, analysis and criticism of Obama's policies and intentions, a ‘story’ I own because the [mainstream media] is largely the Obama Press Office.”

The bigger, the better, agreed Democrat James Carville. “It’s great for us, great for him, great for the press,” he said of Limbaugh. “The only people he’s not good for are the actual Republicans in Congress.”

Well, maybe he can be the new Au-H2O (Goldwater).

MAJOR mistake on their part.

Many of us hope Hussein fails in his effort to collectivize our country.

We are solidly behind Rush, and the opinions and ideas he puts forward.

It's about time someone verbalized our thoughts and desires.

I hope Rush does take the lead of the party and even decides to run for POTUS.

Just a thought, but I wonder how that October poll was skewed...

Rush’s ratings must be through the roof, he couldn’t have dreamed of a better marketing campaign.

I agree with you. Rush may very well remind Americans what it truly means to be a freedom loving American, and this could upset the socialist apple cart.

Harry Reid must have forgotten to warn the OBammer administration not to mess with Rush.

I’m guessing I’m not the only one here who would prefer 8 years of Obama carnage to some middle-of-road Republican who facilitates the left’s agenda and can’t stand up to Pelosi. In a two party system, with the electorate currently preferring one ideology, the surest path to obsolescence is to emulate the party in power. Politics is a wheel, because most voters never pay attention in the first place.

Not skewed at all. Thirty percent of Americans are liberal. That's "many."

That may have renewed it but it's an old Clinton strategy from at least 1995.

Our local talk radio host contends zero’s sponsor, Soros, has hired a team of private dicks to sieve Rush’s past back to birth and dig up dirt to smear him out of business, unlimited expense account.

This is been going on for years. That’s how they found out he was taking Oxycontin. Meanwhile, if you are a Democrat you can commit criminially negligent manslaughter, be elected to Senate, obstruct justice on your nephew’s rape case, support Britian’s major terrorist adversary for a generation, and end up being knighted by the Queen while being hailed by the MSM as the “Lion Of The Senate.”

This scares me in a Himmler kind of way. We´re all getting excited about the prospect of Rush making Obama look like a fool, but what if it´s not Rush next time? What if it´s you and me? What if it´s a small town talk host? This is scary stuff, and I´m not enjoying it at all.

Well, it probably will be the small town radio guy next. We cannot cower. We need to be strong. We cannot just bend over and take it. There is no room for cowards now, that’s what we have learned from the past from the GOP in Congress. We will be targeted. That is the plan. If we get wobbly, we lose and there will not be a second chance. It is up to the small guy to stand tall. Scary, yes. It is going to be scary either way.

I was lucky enough to be able to see Rush in person when he came to Washington State to campaign for our Republican nominee for Governor. This is something Rush just doesn't do very often, and he drew thousands. We felt very privileged. He is a great orator, even when not behind the golden microphone.

Rush knows that if he was POTUS, he would neccesssarily represent all Americans, even the snivelly welfare professionals.

He’ll never run.
