One of the child actors who starred in the Oscar-winning flick "Slumdog Millionaire" received a severe beating from his dad today after the 10-year-old star refused to be put on display like a trophy. Less than a week after strutting down the red carpet in Los Angeles, actor Azharuddin Mohammed was slapped and kicked by his dad Ismail, The London Sun reported today on its Web site. "I was very sorry that I did what I did," he said afterward. "I was so confused and stressed by my son's homecoming that I did not know myself for a minute. I love my boy and I am very happy to have him home." The ugly fight - which lasted less than a minute - broke out this morning in the Dharavi slum

Yeah. Nothing says “I love you, son” than a good ole fashioned Indian beatdown. Must be a culture thing..
They are Muslim.
It was a cute movie. My wife and I enjoyed it. It is just ironic that the kid is getting clobbered by his father. Life imitates art.
hmmm just like the movie...
Mohammed ... Ismail ... Religion of PeaceTM?
The beatings will continue until morale improves...................
We saw the movie last weekend. It wasn’t as bad as I feared. Not sure if it deserved 8 oscars, but it was a decent story.
only because i could not talk my husband into the latest Clive Owen movie...I’ll have to see that one with the girls...meow.
Needless to say, I never saw it.
The wife has said:
“Oh don’t worry about him. He also beats me senseless everyday. Now if you’ll excuse me, I will have to prepare his whipping rod because my son talked to you infidels.’
muslims
Islamic names. In reality, the kid should praise allah and consider himself lucky he didn’t get his head chopped off.
At least she hasn't lost her head about this (YET)!
A son should be raised to respect his father. Was the Father asking too much for the son to just show off a little?
For some reason, my husband is also uninterested in Clive Owen movies!
It’s a good movie but nothing to scream about. Gran Torino should have won something.
Indians are not typically Muslim, rather they are Budists.
That along with many other things should tell the US and its companies that we should not be outsourcing anything to them at all. I have also recently found out that they are forced to work 12 hour days and it takes 2 of them to do the job of one of us. So from a FTE perspective 1 American does the job of 3 of them, yet so many companies continue to outsource. The will see exactly how screwed up things will get.
He likes them, but let’s say “not as much as I enjoy them”
the first non-pretentious british accent i’ve heard in a long time...
“Indians are not typically Muslim, rather they are Budists.”
I think you meant Hindu’s.
Translation: Who let all these cameras in here?
Welcome back to the third world, chummy.
Maybe the father will become like Murry Wilson did when he sons formed the Beach Boys.
Or even Buddhists.
Perhaps adherents of Buddhism.
Surely not these unknown "Budists" of which you write.
..The movie was a dark, brutal glimpse into the underbelly of India.
To its credit however, the brutality was not near as graphic as it could have been....and the language not as strong...and there were not gratuitous sex scenes....
..a lot was implied, but what was shown was hardcore slum life.
On the other hand, Benjamin Button was genteel & surreal.
Slumdog deserved awards but not Best Picture,IMO.
Many folks were mislead into thinking it a 'happy' movie... ...
..Very little happiness in this movie...a lot of brutality.
Do you think a father should beat his son because he just wants to be a normal kid?
If so, then you're position is warped.
Respect is earned, not taken. The father has just lost a lot of respect his son may have had for him.
SZ
How muslim of him.
Did you even watch the movie ... or do you just hate colored folk?
I’m Indian. It is :)

Actually most, (80.5%) are Hindu. Since the Buddhists do not allow the monks to marry it was a lot easier for the religion of peace to wipe them out of India, Buddhisms birthplace.
I liked the Erik Kuselias’ review on ESPN Radio of ‘Slumdog’ “It was a two-hour beatdown. It made Schindler’s List look like Animal House”
The clip I saw had an entire group of people singing and dancing at a train station. Not for me at all.
From WIKIPEDIA: “Religious demographics
Main article: Religion in India
80.5% of the Indians are Hindus, with 13.4% of the population Muslim, making India home to the third-largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan. India also contains the majority of the world’s Zoroastrians, Sikhs, Jains and Bahá’í. Other religious groups include Christians (2.3%), Buddhists (0.8%), Jains (0.4%), and Jews.
Religious majorities vary greatly by state. Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep are Muslim majority states; Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya are Christian majority; Punjab is mostly Sikh; Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are mainly Buddhist.
But Barnum was kind and generous to Thumb. I doubt if this father is so loving. He should be watched like a hawk.
The son is lucky he wasn't beheaded as an honor thing when he balked at his father's wishes.

????
I believe the brother’s mother was killed in the movie
by Hindus,because they were Muslims.
Dad jealous of son's success?

yeah, he especially beat genius into Brian.
My grandfather would occasionally "whack" me upsida my head then say "that was for nothing, just in case you were thinking of doin something"............
I haven't seen the movie, but didn't this precious sweet boy get any money from being in the film? Is he still living in the slums?????
sw
That was just the Bollywood style “casting call” at the end of the movie.
I thought overall it was an engaging story..clever the way they framed it..each question on the “Millionaire” quiz show started a flashback to the boy’s hard life from his childhood in Bombay(Mumbai).

From an unemployed IT person . . .
Amen!
I have had to fix programs that had been outsourced to India that were so bad I would have failed if I handed them in as a class assignment.
Next thing you know Dad will be strapping him into a bomb belt.
I’d like to see more Hollywood stars get brutal beatings from their fathers.
In fact, they should make films of it because that’s a movie that I’d be willing to pay money to see.
Let’s start out with all the womyn on ‘The View.’ Sean Penn, MICHAEL MOORE, man, Rosie O’mcDonald’s I could go on and on here.
But, it showed this "good things can happen randomly to anyone" mentality, and it fits with their "Slumdog President". I cannot remember a film winning Best Picture without ANY of its actors being nominated in the acting categories.
To your reply 16...yes.
If the boy felt that he should not show off, more to him.
Ti =o your post # 18....great movie...
