SALT LAKE CITY Police arrested 11 people, including a juvenile, after an undercover investigation exposed a Salt Lake City drug operation.
Police say all the suspects are undocumented illegal immigrants who have been selling drugs in neighborhoods across the Salt Lake Valley.
Undercover narcotics detectives say they have been buying drugs from people in two apartments at 1804 W. Shannon Circle for more than a month.
Residents on Shannon Circle watched as detectives hauled their neighbors away one by one on Thursday morning. Police say they found cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines, and cash in the neighboring apartments where the suspects lived.
Sgt. Richard Lewis of the Salt Lake City Police Department said, "One apartment seemed like it had the most of the cash and a small amount of drugs. The other apartment had very little cash and a lot of drugs."
Police say each of the suspects will face charges that range from possession with intent to distribute, to possession of a controlled substance. One of them will also be charged with assault on a police officer.
"During the entry, one of the persons got up and got into a fight with one of the officers and had to be tased," Lewis said.
He says all 11 people arrested are undocumented illegal immigrants. So far nine of them have been turned over to Immigration and Naturalization Services. One will be processed in the juvenile system.
Lisa Gardner and her kids have been living in the neighborhood for more than nine years. She say she and the other neighbors are surprised by drugs being dealt so close to home.
"They'll probably be more cautious about their kids playing outside by themselves," she said.
Police would not disclose the amount of drugs confiscated from the apartments, only saying that it was a lot.
Detectives say all the men and women arrested are involved at the street level, meaning they're the ones responsible for selling and distributing drugs in neighborhoods.
If the perps are illegal, then the “crimes” aren’t really crimes.
Where have you been?
“Just selling drugs America won’t sell.”
That is about the size of it.
MS-13 thugs coming to your town next.
oh no... wait until the feds throw those cops in jail.
The police violated their rights since they were not from this country .. or something like that. Now they can sue the police and Obama will give them the cops homes.
