Former GOP presidential candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee in an exclusive Newsmax interview says President Obamas early job performance is cause for alarm, and warns his penchant for talking down the economy is the worst possible direction he could take.
Obamas dark portrayal of the U.S. economy -- apparently intended to lower the high expectations stoked by his rhetoric during the campaign -- is on the verge of becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy, Huckabee adds.
The former Arkansas governors criticism followed a week that saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a six-year low. The S & P 500, the index that most trading professionals rely on as a market barometer, closed the week at its lowest level in 12 years.
He can no longer talk about the fact that this is all Bushs fault, Huckabee tells Newsmax. First of all there, there was a Democratic Congress that Bush had to deal with, that would not let Bush deal with Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac.
Now, I think theres plenty of culpability within the Bush administration, particularly for the TARP [financial bailout] program, which is a dismal failure, Huckabee concedes. But Obama ran for president knowing full well what

Alarmed? I’m way passed alarmed. I’ve move through that level and the pissed stage and I’m currently working on the laughing so I don’t cry stage.
Huckabee has a lot to answer for in this matter in my opinion. His personal ambition screwed us as much as Obama is going to. Review the recent past. Are people's memorys that short?
“Well, I guess the same guy who told me Yes we can is now telling me No we cant.
Huckabee adds: Its the worst possible direction he could take. I think about how polar opposite it is from sort of the classic FDR message, We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
With Obama, its We have nothing but fear.
I didn’t watch him when he said ‘Yes we can’, and I haven’t watched him when he has said ‘No we can’t’. I dont watch him. I’m reading my info, it’s easier to digest.
Right on, Huck.
I know its worse than one of those body snatcher rip off movies.
I’ve passed all that and am now in full-blown panic mode. I’ve got a shopping list three pages (double columns) long and not enough cash.
The part that scares me the most is my son. He’s a Type 1 diabetic and he won’t survive a complete collapse for long.
If I only knew how much time we had. I kept thinking that things would fall apart in two years or so. Now it’s going so fast that I don’t know if we’ll even make it through the summer.
Agreed. This idiot screwed up the rnc primary and gave rise to this evil dangerous Soros hand puppet.
Let me get this right. The same Huck who played a goddamn political game that in essense got us here? Let him fiddle on Fox while Rome burns I suppose.
Understatement.
I'm so far beyond pissed off words fail me.
He had some help from the theocratic right.
Can you stock up on his insulin? I know a lot of people who have gotten duplicate prescriptions by making a trip to the ER and visiting more than one pharmacy. Anything for survival at this point. Freepmail me. I might have other suggestions. I’m in the medical field.
No worries. Huckabee changes his tune to the prevailing winds....... again and again! I don't know why the guy even has a soap box, let alone a TV show.

Hey Schmuckabee, you helped get him elected.
You could as easily blame Fred Thompson for giving us McCain instead of Huckabee. The Huckster might have had a shot to win the general with his populism, as the economy went south. More than McCain with his dithering and Phil Gramm, anyway.
I would have voted for Huckabee over McLaim. He may not have all the answers but he does not pander and flip-flop.
Mike Huckabee had every right to run for president and I’m glad he did. I voted for him in the primary and still would. He would have been a good president.
