Boxer: Budget stalemate could hurt Calif. stimulus

By JULIET WILLIAMS, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

A monthslong partisan rift over how to solve California's $42 billion budget shortfall could jeopardize the state's piece of the federal economic stimulus package, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer said Wednesday.

About $11 billion of that could immediately help the state close its budget shortfall — if the state Legislature could agree to a midyear budget fix, said Jed Kolko, associate director of research for the Public Policy Institute of California.

California is likely to become the GM of the states. Its costs are so much higher than expectations of revenue. Most of the stimulous, it seems, will go to pay welfare costs and for the schools. But I repeat myself.

You are right, they did it in NH, VT and Washington to name three. I am sure there are more. Maybe NC is in there also. We are doomed here in PA, maybe the tide will reverse in a hundred years and the Conservatives will come back to the Cradle.
