“No guns for poor people” is an old, tired, but persistent approach.
If I posted what I really feel about these people, I’d be banned.

“An Illinois state lawmaker is proposing that gun owners be required to carry personal liability insurance of at least $1 million.”
Well, I’m sure the street gangs and drug dealers in Chicago will be the first in line to ensure they are in compliance!

You’ll pay damages to the guy’s family, or GF, or BF.
Another Cook County thug.
His constituents don't bother about licenses.
Illinois Bill Would Require authors and journalists to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance
February 18, 2009
An Illinois state lawmaker is proposing that authors and journalists be required to carry personal liability insurance of at least $1 million.
Rep. Kenneth Dunkin’s bill seeks to amend the state’s Authors and Journalists Identification Card Act to provides that any person who writes books, news articles or op-ed in the state maintain a $1 million or higher policy of liability insurance “specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts resulting from the generation of such books, news articles or op-eds by such person who writes books, news articles or op-ed.”
All authors and journalists would be responsible for all books, news articles or op-ed that are misquoted or plagiarized until the misquote or plagiarism is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the authors and journalists resides.
Police would be empowered to pull the state’s Authors and Journalists Identification Card License of anyone who does not submit evidence of having the required insurance.
The measure is now in the House Rules Committee.
Let's try a few variants on that:
Illinois Bill Would Require News Media to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance (libel and slander are risks)
Illinois Bill Would Require those who worship to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance (they might offend someone in this PC world)
Illinois Bill Would Require those who petition the government to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance (to cover the potential for emotional distress from their petition)
Illinois Bill Would Require those who assemble in public to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance (again, people get hurt at rallies)
My suggestion: Illinois Bill Would Require politicians to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance to cover legal costs for the victims of unconstitutional bills.
It isn’t.
Poll taxes are also unconstitutional.

They’re better off taking the guns out of the hands of the criminals. Oh wait..............that would mean that there wouldn’t be any guns in Chicago.
If this becomes legislation in Illinois it will face the same fate as did a poll tax.
A citizen can’t be denied a constitutional right because of a lack of financial resources.
There are never any unintended consequences to liberal solutions - what the heck are you thinking?
Soooo, if you’re Oprah style rich, you are permitted to protect yourself. A middleclass or poor person is SOL. Yeah, this will fly. Where do they find these idiots???
See, that’s the deal. They don’t expect the young gang bangers to comply. They WANT them armed.
You, though, who might at some point want to consider resisting their benevolent tyranny, are to be disarmed.
It's like Jeananne Garafolo says ... I'm a Republican, so there must be something wrong with me.
This is just another attempt to create a way for the gov to find out who owns guns. All of the camel will be in the tent if this passes. More guns owned, larger calibers = higher risk = higher cost of insurance. “Shall Not Be Infringed”, oh yeah, I forgot, the Constitution is now dead.
Meanwhile, in other states, freedom remains...
that’s my gut feel too. Licensed gun owners are not a high risk. They shouldn’t do it (I live in IL) but if they do, some insurance companies should step up with the lowest possible cost insurance (how about $1/year) to make it a moot point.
