Convicted former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were released from federal prison this morning and are en route to join their families in El Paso, Texas.
Characterizing Ramos and Compean's incarceration as a "political prosecution," Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, called for a congressional investigation into alleged prosecutorial misconduct by El Paso U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton under the direction of Bush administration Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
Poe also called for an investigation into the alleged role of the Mexican government in demanding that Ramos and Compean be prosecuted.
"As soon as President Bush commuted Ramos and Compean's sentences, the Mexican government registered a large protest," Poe noted.
"In their protest, the Mexican government admitted their involvement in the case without specifying what their involvement was," he added.
"So I think the first order of business is for the U.S. Congress to investigate what role the Mexican government had in demanding the Bush administration prosecute this case," he insisted. "Mexico should not be meddling into U.S. criminal cases."

This is one probe of the Bushies that I agree with.
Look vewwy, vewwy closely at this prosecutor.
I am thrilled they have been released and pray for the best for them and their families.
There needs to be an investigation.
Why is a nation like Mexico so concerned with one of their drug dealers?
Sounds like the Mexi-Narcos have been running Mexico for a lot longer than has been believed
Good that Ramos and Compean are finally free. They were wrongfully convicted, and were nothing more than political prisoners
Bush should have pardoned them, and prosecuted the US Atty
I don’t think it was a pardon. I think it was just a commutation.
This is what they wanted. They are going back to court to clear their name.
Don’t insert facts where none are desired...(chuckle)
Pesonally, I hope they don’t pull the Congressional Investigation nonsense on this one, because these two men need to get on with their respective lives. All that would do is making it more difficult for them to find work...and as we know right now its hard enough as it is.
I hadn’t heard they requested that.
GWB DID NOT PARDON THEM.
GWB commuted their sentence.
And that is what upsets me...Bush pardoned drug dealers but didn't pardon Scooter Libby, Campeon & Ramos!
It was on one of the talk shows a few months back when Bush did it.
At least they got out before the guy that got shot in the butt.
God bless these two agents and their families as they rebuild their lives.
Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, THEY are free at last!
YES - agree entirely. But on another note: Does anyone know of a way to show support and love to these families? To show these men that they are appreciated; and that we know the cruel and unusual punishment they were subjected to — and that completely UNJUST !
I am thinking in terms of a monetary gift ...?
Mrs. Esopman
Jeez, it took long enough.

George W. Bush is the opposite of Harry Truman.
When Truman became President, nobody expected much, but he surprised everyone by becoming one of the greatest Presidents in U.S. history.
When Bush became President, millions (including me) expected great things, but he surprised them by becoming one of the worst Presidents in U.S. history. He's not down there with Carter, Clinton, Harding, Andrew Johnson, Lyndon Johnson, and Grant, but his countenance will not grace Mt. Rushmore.
Something happened there very nasty..
I'll deal with the border guard thing after I find out about the Sandy Berger thing..
Sweet!
On what grounds? Their were convicted and their conviction was upheld by the 5th Circuit. What rabbit do they think they can pull out of their hat now?
If they had been pardoned then they would have all their rights back. Right now they're convicted felons who got sprung early.
