If not for Collins, Snow and Spector, the entire bill would have been thrown away, and a new one without the pork would have been produced.
Hence my tag line.

The two of them should have the decency and honesty to switch their party affiliation to the DhimmiRats. They, along with Specter, are NOT conservatives, in any sense of the word.

Just how bad is the Maine GOP anyway? As bad as Illinois or worse?

WHY is it that Democrats can keep Democrats in line but the Republicans cant ?

They aren't even Republicans. Just RINO's.

Yes, these useful idiots allowed BHO to crow he had some bipartisanship, but I don't think the GOP has the heart for a full-on filibuster that would have gotten this all cleaned up. And, going forward, I don't think that they could filibuster steadily without getting a media/public backlash. The people who say the public wants something--anything-- done have a point. It's too hard for most people to wade through 1073 pages of special interest pork and form an independent opinion.

Snowe was reelected in 2006 with 74% of the vote and Collins was reelected in November with 61.5% of the vote. They have been untouchable in Maine.

Perhaps. But the fact is those three ensured we will never know...

"I had an infinite number of ideas, because they had been stored up," says Snowe, a Maine Republican who never got that kind of treatment when her party controlled the White House. Impossible.
Given the number of available, functional brain cells, you might be able to come up with half of an idea.
Maybe.
