Quiznos adopts new PETA-backed food policies

The Quiznos sandwich chain said Tuesday it has adopted a new animal-welfare policy for the eggs, pork and turkey it buys.

The Denver-based chain said it came up with the policy in conjunction with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"We are always trying to find new ways to be better corporate citizens, and we'll continue to seek those ways," Quiznos spokesman Joe Hodas said.

Quiznos will buy more eggs from cage-free chickens, more pork raised in crate-free environments and more turkeys that are killed using a method that PETA described as more humane, in which the birds' oxygen supply is replaced by other gases. The chain also removed eggs from three of its four cookies on the menu.

My favorite sub place. I wonder how this will affect prices.

I’m a member of PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Animals). I’m not too happy about Quisno’s decision here. I will probably have to find a new sub shop to patronize.

We should organize a mini-boycott to make them give up this foolishness.

Subway sent me an e-mail today saying that all regular footlong sandwiches are now $5. Just in time to ignore these idiots that surrendered to animal “rights” terrorists!

For supporting the jackass animals-have-rights crowd I’ll skip Quizno’s forever more.

My fave, as well. Run by a great Indian family in our town. They have the ‘usual’ waiting for me when they see my car pull up. No kidding. *sigh*

It only affects me if it raises prices. Otherwise I don’t care. Certainly not enough to boycott them. I really don’t condone the unethical treatment of animals. It’s just that I really don’t condone the unethical treatment of my wallet.

More salmonella for us all and gassed birds rather than naturally killed birds, I wonder what that will do to the final product.
