Why are they being tried in Mexico? I thought they would be tried by the Navy.

Why are they being tried in Mexico? I thought they would be tried by the Navy.

Because the crimes took place in Mexico, Mexico isn't obligated to turn them over to navy authorities and the navy isn't demanding their release. We're told repeatedly as sailors in San Diego that if we get in trouble in Mexico, there's little the navy will do for us. In fact, the navy very recently added more restrictions on traveling to Tijuana due to the lawlessness in the region.
