THE United States will send 60 experts to help in recovery efforts after the worst bushfires in Victorian history.
The support team was requested by Emergency Management Australia (EMA) in response to the ongoing Victoria fires, and should arrive on Sunday.
The team will include experts on burned area rehabilitation, incident management, aviation support and mid-and senior-level management.

I’m assuming the fires are still burning.
There are six large American water bombing helicopters in Australia at the moment supplementing existing Australian water bombing capability.
And, yes, the fires are still burning and will be for weeks.

60 Experts is wonderful. 600 strong backs and willing hearts would be even better. It’s awful to see Aus burning
In another thread, some Australian said they already have 70,000 volunteers, but need some experienced fire chiefs to help organize and coordinate their efforts - so that’s what they asked us for.

Words in Victoria that no one wanted to hear.
My cousin tells me they are safe but think that many of their friends are not.
Last weekend she mentioned it being too hot to go to the market with their wares, so they had a whole bunch of produce that she had to do something with. From what she said, we calculated that the temps there were 112 degrees F. No wonder fires got started so easily and went so fast.
Honestly, at this point, we don’t need any more strong backs - there are 60,000 volunteer firefighters in Victoria, and other states have similar numbers. We can put as many firefighters on the ground as we need to.
What we need - and what the US is sending - is additional people to help with the logistic support that all those firefighters need.
At some point, we may be asking for specialist firefighter units from overseas to do more specific jobs that need special skills but the ‘general’ body of firefighting can be met from local resources.
