LOS ANGELES, February 2, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Actor Gary Graham knew that by writing about his personal experience and rejection of abortion, he would be incurring the ire of not a few among the Hollywood elite.
Yet a blog column posted last Tuesday by the seasoned actor, known most recently for his roles as Ambassador Soval in the TV series "Star Trek: Enterprise" and Capt. Ingles on "J.A.G.", took an unflinching look at truths almost entirely ignored by those in the Hollywood establishment.
"Im going to say what millions know in the front of their brains, and many, many more millions know in the depths of their hearts but wont allow themselves to think it, much less feel it," wrote Graham. "And believe me, I know Ill be hated for saying it, Ill be hated by people who dont know me, have never worked with me, have never golfed with me, had a drink with me.
"Im going to say it anyway: Abortion is murder."
Graham described the irresponsibility of his youth that made abortion the convenient option for a drug-fueled, free-love lifestyle. He confessed to having paid for multiple abortions for girlfriends, observing that abortion sure took the pressure off of me, a guy, interested in sex who had been raised in the era of, Hey, you get a girl pregnant, you marry her! But then, he says, a "spiritual awakening" brought him to a "tearful epiphany of what it meant for a man to be with a woman, what sex was really designed for by our Creator and what abortion is.
"I truly wish that I had had this conviction way back when when I was only concerned about my selfish convenience of the day," wrote Graham. "But I didnt want to know, I didnt want to think about it. It was inconvenient to think about it."
He noted that the widespread acceptance of abortion "says volumes of how our entire culture has been coarsened," and "How life itself has been cheapened.
"We are told to have sex any time we feel the urge. Condoms are handed out in grade schools. Promiscuity is not only condoned, its tacitly encouraged ... But if you should get pregnant and its just not a convenient time for you, dont worry, there are Family Planning Services. ... That inconvenient fetus can be surgically ripped from its uterine moorings, ground up and tossed into the trash like so much garbage.
"Problem solved, and the mother can resume her egocentric lifestyle. But the scars on that womans soul will never quite heal. Im a man, but Ive got them on mine."
Responding to those who call for abortion to be "legal but rare," Graham asked, "Why rare?
"Whats wrong with abortion, that you think it should be a rare occurrence? Ive had moles removed from my skin. Doctors dont tell us that a mole removal should be rare. So whats with this rare business? Or is it a tacit agreement that abortion is plain wrong?
"Try this exercise: Every time you hear someone use the phrase ' a womans right to choose ' mentally complete the phrase with the following words ' to kill her baby.' Thats what the arguments about. A womans right to kill her baby."

He seems to be quite aware just how out of touch Hollyweird is with the rest of the country.

God bless him!
It must be hard for him knowing that he paid to have his own children killed. I think a lot of men probably never admit that to themselves.
“He seems to be quite aware just how out of touch Hollyweird is with the rest of the country”
More so than the newly-elected RNC head it seems
I read this article last week and it was such a blessing to see the light go on.
Now he can grieve the loss of his children.
Bravo for him telling it like it is.
wow...
Wow! This is so honest and well articulated. Thank you, Mr. Graham and welcome to the bright side!
“It must be hard for him knowing that he paid to have his own children killed. I think a lot of men probably never admit that to themselves.”
My breath caught in my throat when I read that. As anti-abortion as I am, I had simply never thought of it that way. I can only thank God that I never had the occasion to do so while in college, though (to my shame) certainly the potential existed.
Colonel, USAFR
When he played Soval, he made me hate him. He was very convincing as a cold-hearted b...
Very talented. Nice to know that he really has a heart.
A good, tough question -- well, "tough" if you're trying to justify abortions.
It is commendable that he finally saw the truth that abortion is murder. It is sad that he paid for THREE abortions before he saw the light.
GREAT article. More prominent people who feel this way should speak up and out. If no one takes a stand against anything, then we are all sitting FOR it.
just WOW.
(insteresting to note that he was in that “alien nation” tv series that was ALLLllll political correctnes.)
i am impressed because he is testifying to the ugly truth of abortion on demand as a tool of birth control for recreational sex.
I don't think we should ever permit secular leftists to distort this distinction.
Way to go sir! I admire your conviction and courage! Any politicians around that have guts like this?
The new head of the RNC with his pro homosexual marraige, pro abortion stance is “Lost in Space”.
The ONLY cases that occur with any frequency where the mother's life is at risk due to the baby are ectopic pregnancies; however, in nearly all of these pregnancies the baby is ALREADY DEAD when the condition is discovered.
The sad fact is that abortions are performed so people don't have to take responsibility for their actions.
Yes they are. An American child is murdered EVERY 24 SECONDS for "convenience."
I watched his interview on Fox and did not take hi a pro homo marriage or pro abortion. Simply there are 100 issues on the table and we need not break apart by two.
Enterprise pro-life ping.
Crumbs! I never realized Soval was Sykes!
What an anomaly....
Kudos to him.
Very well said....
More so than the newly-elected RNC head it seems
What do you mean?
Hey, asshat, prove your filthy slur or shut the heck up!
I have pressed the abuse button, as I will again, if I keep seeing this unfounded slur against a good man.
Holy Cr*p! He pounded the libs to powder with that one. I just bookmarked his blog page - I had no idea he was such a strong commentator.
Watered my eyes. I have a similar story, and Praise God that He enlightened me.
The scars, Mr. Graham, are there to keep reminding us.
It proves that every life, even those unborn to us, serves a purpose.
Got a link for that?
Something I've been saying for years. Always add the words to clarify what they mean when they say "the right to choose..."
Wow. I love this guy. He dares to Tell Truth To Power.
See the movie “Alfie” for a great Michael Caine performance and a Hollywood that was able to say straight up that men participate in abortion and that it is murder.
That’s exactly what it was “all about” in the song and in the unequivocal message of the movie. Michael Caine realized he had murdered his own aborted son and the realization changed his life.
From the sounds of things he should have been elected to be the new leader of the dying GOP.
I've also had people say to me, "I wouldn't choose abortion for myself, but I think it would be improper to tell someone else that they should choose abortion."
I ask them to substitute the words murder, rape, rob and arson for abortion.
You’re right. I apologize. I have just watched the vid, and lost all hope in doing so.
Again, I’m sorry.
I apologize. I have just watched the vid, and it f’n broke my heart.
Again, I’m sorry.
I just watched the vid, and am attempting to apologize to all those I questioned.
Again, I’m sorry.
it’s not a problem. it’s a common thing. conservatives are so desperate for a leader, they latch onto perceived leaders, and will not tolerate any dissent to them, until they are let down time after time.
but it’s a bit ridiculous really, because how much did you honestly know about that guy before committing so strongly?
don’t lose all hope.
people MUST start getting involved in primary campaigns
No offense taken, here, papasmurf. The playing field is morphing by the minute out there, and it is hard to keep up. Don’t sweat it.
Yes I understood that. Thank you.
From all that I’ve read regarding Michael Steele and from some of his own speeches, I believe that man is conservative. I do not agree that we should ‘reach’ out to these people, however, I’m not ready to condemn him for this.
You’ll find that liberals like to hide what they know to be immoral behind the idea of groups doing it (”others, not me”). Like, “we voted on it, so it’s OK”.
Yeah, would it be OK for 6 men and 4 women to vote on whether the women should be raped?
I guess if they lose the vote, they can always vote on it again in 2 years!
It’s becoming clearer to me by the day that the ONLY hope for the GOP is with Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.
For what it’s worth, I think the best course for the GOP might be for conservatives to just leave and let the GOP “go the way of the Whigs.” The Whig party started splintering over slavery in the early 1850s and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 was pretty much the end. Abraham Lincoln and others formed the Republican Party that same year and within six years they had elected him president.
Ectopic pregnancy, in the rare circumstance that it occurs, would be a justification for an abortion because the child would literally be a threat to the mother as it grows outside the uterus. Even then, it is not the rule that an ectopic pregnancy means an abortion is required. In some cases it merely means that a Ceasarian section is required to deliver a healthy and normal baby. As with any serious medical decision, a second opinion is required because ectopic pregnancies are frequently misdiagnosed.
“For what its worth, I think the best course for the GOP might be for conservatives to just leave”
it’s not
