Practically speaking, home schooling isn’t a viable alternative to public schooling.

Certainly it is. It's being done very successfully by hundreds of thousands of families with millions of kids each year across this country. The test results confirm its success.

Either two incomes are needed to keep the family going,

Both irrelevant points.

Most two income families I know live way beyond what they need. I know of none which HAVE to have two incomes to make it.

or one/both parents don’t have the educational background necessary to teach above third grade level, let alone middle school.

Which indicates an abject failure on the part of the public education system to adequately educate the kids going through it. Any person who's successfully been through high school should be capable of teaching what they learned.

And an education degree means squat.

My best friend and my s-i-l both have degrees in education and both told me that it did not teach them how to teach or do anything to make them better teachers. As a matter of fact, my best friend said that she would have been better prepared to teach high school math had she been able to get a math degree, the quality of the math education courses was so low. And she graduated from a SUNY school that specializes in education.

You also neglect to factor in that parents are capable of learning as they teach thier children.

Homeschooling worked great in this country for centuries. No reason it can't now.

1. In Islamic academies in America, with teaching materials from Saudi Arabia and other sources, the academies indoctrinate unequivocal hatred toward non-Muslims, and deep suspicion of our Western values.

There have been calls to "privatize" education, and give parents tax credits or government subsidies to send their children to private schools. Just be aware that if we do that, this is an example of where some of that money will be going.

It's already going there. You need to keep up.

So you're opposed to educational choice for parents? That parents would have any say in where their tax dollars went and how they were used?

At the root of it is this farce called "multiculturism." (ronnyquest)

Leftists hate America more than they fear Islam. ( Mr.Mojo)

The true root is Marxism. Marxism is what drives multiculturism. If the Marxists, disguised and dressed up in the multiculutrist costume, can destroy and devalue our culture, then the Marxists win.

Marxism is our nation's **most** serious threat. Schools are the Marxists **most** important weapon!

So?...Are conservatives even aware of the threat or the true enemy? NO! Most aren't.

And....The few conservatives who are vaguely aware of the treat **wrongly** think that government schools can be reformed. They can't!

Government schools from their very inception in the mid nineteenth century were conceived by, and promoted by SOCIALISTS! The goal of government schooling from the very beginning was to turn the American people into pliable SHEEPLE! It is impossible to reform what has never been broken!

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLING MUST BE TOTALLY SHUT DOWN!

Yes, I am shouting. Conservatives are in a somnolent stupor.

By the way, Mr. Mojo, it is time we called the enemy by their true name. The are Marxists and Communists. They hate America and they want it destroyed.

This is an immigration and **crime** problem!

If Islam is a threat to our nation than we should ***IMMEDIATELY*** work to stop all immigration of Muslims into the nation! Fomenting rebellion and promoting terrorism is a **CRIME**! It should be treated as such, and threatening organizations need to be infiltrated by appropriate and legal police agents.

Attempting to use public education policy to control the Islamic threat is like using a water pistol to put out a raging forest fire.

& now she isn't sick all the time.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am sooooo glad to hear that Sassy’s health has improved.

Also, please remember that even when your children did attend school, 99% of what they learned was at **home**.

Institutional schools teach very little in the classroom. Most learning is due to the child and parents’ efforts in the home. The institutional school is mostly just sending home a curriculum for the parents to follow. The real learning happens at the kitchen table.

How very true. We would spend hours going over the work she did in school. Now we don't need the inhaler, & hardly need to see the doctor. Sassy is no longer on all those drugs thankfully. She also has much more interest in learning.

You’re right; I was not reaching as deeply for the root cause. People think communism died with the USSR, but that is not so.

Actually, my concern is with the average, not the extremes. The best can/will get it done. Many of the worst are honest enough about it to not even try.

Encouraging the AVERAGE parent to homeschool is catastrophic.

No. The average public school is what’s catastrophic.

Between the graduation rates and illiteracy rates, almost any child would be better off at home. At the very least, they aren’t subject to the brainwashing and propaganda that schools are rife with.

I’d say that graduation and literacy has at least as much to do with parents as it does with schools.

I’d also suggest that there’s a good bit of brainwashing and propaganda that goes on in the average home. Maybe a bit more in the more liberally oriented ones, I’d say unscientifically.

You want to homeschool, have at it. I’m happy with the public schools available to us. Myself, I’m the product of a private elementary/middle school. Shoddy math curriculum, and more than a little propaganda.

Best teachers I had, hands down, were the ones at the public high school, and that includes my Service Academy instructors in the mix.

Don’t get me wrong, I had several math and engineering instructors at the Academy that were first rate. Education at a college isn’t foundational, however, like it is in high school.

Color me lucky? I don’t know.

I can tell you this: show me a bad educational experience, and I’ll show you one in which you have not enough parental support, and WAY to much politization. I don’t care what the polarity, politization is bad.

For example, high school should teach you how to spot ALL BIAS in an article, independent of the reader’s ideology. High school should teach you how to spot the indications of analysis, and how that differs from statements of fact or evidence.

Ideology should come from your parents, your church, etc. Academic skills should come from your school. Most parents don’t have the background in skill necessary to produce a functional contributor to a capitalist republic.

"...capitalist republic."

Two very important concepts that together are essential for inclusion in the educational process, regardless of where it takes place.

Thanks for posting.

If we don’t take back our schools this country is finished. David Horowitz does great work but he is almost alone. Daniel Pipes Campus Watch is one more.

Jewish Policy Center, a Jewish conservative think tank, published an issue in their journal on this topic.
