GOP defies Obama overtures
Yahoo / POLITICO ^ | 01/29/2009 | EagleUSA

House Republicans have proposed an alternative that leaders say would create 6.2 million jobs for only $478 billion.

"What Member can't go back his or her District and explain: Rather than voting for a bloated bill, ... I voted for an alternative that would create twice the jobs at half the cost, and faster?" a House Republican leadership aide said. "That's why we didn't lose a single Republican and picked up 11 Democrats."

Pushing back against the unanimous House Republican vote against President Obama’s stimulus plan, the White House plans to release state-by-state job figures “so we can put a number on what folks voted for an against,” an administration aide said.

“It’s clear the Republicans who voted against the stimulus represent constituents who will be stunned to learn their member of Congress voted against [saving or] creating 4 million jobs,” the aide said.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the lawmakers will have to answer to their constituents.

“I do believe that there will be people in districts all over the country that will wonder why, when there’s a good bill to get the economy moving again, why we still seem to be playing political gotcha," Gibbs said.

And later today, MoveOn, Americans United for Change, AFSCME and SEIU will be announcing a new ad campaign targeting moderate Republican senators who might support the stimulus — Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Charles Grassley of Iowa.

Well, GOOD JOB! Repubs. Our "pork and payback" billmiester is just having a fit that the Repubs basically told him what he could do with his massive taxpayer ripoff and pork bill. It is clear that the Repubs understand this bill is intended really to FUND HIS RE-ELECTION in 2012. It serves little other purpose, certainly not rebuilding our CAPITALIST ECONOMY, and just serves to payback his constituency for their votes while sandbagging the majority of the "stimulus" money for the 2010-2012 timeframe for buying more votes. Let's hope the Repubs in the Senate have as much sense to keep their names off of this massive theft of taxpayer money.

Someone look in the Politico/MSM archives and see how many times they used the phrase “Dems defy Bush overtures”.

“Tell Congress to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past.”

That is classic. I think that Obama’s plan is failed policies from the past.

That’s the spirit GOP senators and anyone else with a shred of American in them. Absolutely no pork chop stimulation. Don’t worry about approval levels which come and go, but rather our God given Republic.

"...Tell Congress to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past..."

At least now we know that Gibbs can read bumper stickers.

The Final Score
Stimulus Only Stimulating Politicians’ Power

David Asman
FOXBusiness

final score 276

So what are we getting for our money? Not much soon. As economist Tom Sowell reminds us in a great column Wednesday, even if you do believe this massive spending plan will help, it takes time to get these programs up and running.

The Congressional Budget Office says that only $26 billion of the stimulus money can be spent this year. And only a third of the total will be spent by the end of 2010. As Sowell points out: “…it’s like mailing a letter to the fire department to tell them that your house is on fire.”

If the politicians want to get the quickest bang for your buck, they should cut taxes. Immediately, folks would have more cash in their pockets. So why don’t they do that? Again, Prof. Sowell hits the nail on the head:

“They are buying what politicians are most interested in— power…they are buying the power to tell General Motors how to make cars, banks how to bank and, before it is all over with, all sorts of other people how to do the work they specialize in, and for which members of Congress have no competence, much less expertise.”

Politicians using your money for their own self aggrandizement. As my grandfather used to say…there ought to be a law….

Be sure to thank your Republican Congressman, if you are blessed with one of these patriots. Rush did a great job today in praising them for supporting the bipartisan vote AGAINST this Porkulus Bill.

(Also got a chuckle out of his mention of John Carter, R-TX, introducing the Rangel Resolution, demanding the same kid-glove treatment for regular taxpayers in their dealings with the IRS as is enjoyed by pols and other elites. Charlie Rangel and Treasury Sec. Geithner are kindly asked to pay back taxes years after they were due, with no requirement that they pay penalties. Surely in the name of fairness, the Dems should vote for this bill:).

I was proud of my Party yesterday. Not one of our members went south. I hope to see more of this. I hope our next RNC chairman will commit himself to recruiting a solid block of quality conservatives to run for the House and Senate next year. Conservative leaders such as Rush have exposed BHO’s stimulus bill for the pile of of pay-back pork it really is. Let us hope and pray that not one single Republican in the senate votes for this monstrosity as well.
