DURHAM — The 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebratory Events at the University of New Hampshire will come with a controversial twist — the inclusion of 1960s student radical turned academic Angela Davis who will give the keynote speech.

Davis, who was on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list in the 1970s, will speak about the urgent need for prison reform as part of this year’s MLK celelbration theme “One in 100: Dismantling a Prison Nation.”

Angela Davis should be in prison. Then again, so should Bill Ayers.

Jeez, I didn’t know Angie was still alive.
That’s a blast from the past.

Prison Reform is code for Amnesty.

The irony of this is that Angela Davis was no fan of Martin Luther King. And probably still isn’t.

Yep. Expect to see a lot more of it, especially in the first flush of all these marginal cultural/political figures now getting informally “certified” by the mere presence of this Zero in the WH. I fully expect Rap and Hip Hop to become our national music before the end of ‘09.All these people have been enabled and emboldened since the advent of The One.
It comes with the territory. He just gives them that extra little bit of legitimacy that has long been lost to the realities of history and common sense. Thanks for bringing it back, Obambi, you big POS.

Prison Reform is in fact needed, and needed desperately.
But my proscription for it would probably be the exact opposite of Angie Davis’s .

She may be no fan of his but they’ll be paying her. She’d probably speak at an event for Bush if she’d get $$$.

I’m tempted to show up with a big sign saying: “Deport All Illegals Now - and Communists, Too!”.

Dismantling a Prison Nation — by freeing all convicts and appointing them as members of the new National Security Force!

That's true. She was the Vice Presidential candidate (with Gus Hall running for President) on the last ticket the Communist Party USA had in a Presidential election.
