CBS and NBC Minimize Obama's Abortion Funding Order; ABC Highlights 'Brutal' Reaction from Religious Conservatives

Catching up on an item from Friday night, the three broadcast evening newscasts aired virtually nothing on January 23 about President Obama’s executive order permitting federal funding of abortions, overturning orders signed by President Bush in his first week in office back in 2001. Both CBS and NBC’s White House reporters squeezed in a single sentence about Obama’s action during stories about the economic stimulus bill, while ABC’s World News said nothing about the orders on Friday.

But on Sunday’s World News, ABC’s Dan Harris highlighted conservative criticism of Obama’s abortion decision, arguing that it showed how “despite his desire to reach out to people who disagree with him, the new President may find that on some issues, it may be impossible to find common ground.” Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi also painted the President -- whom she said hoped “not to provoke” conservatives by banning photographs of the signing -- the victim of a “brutal” reaction from conservatives:

At churches across the country, the good will coming from the pulpit to the President seems to be wavering....On Friday, the President signed an executive order, reversing the ban on federal funding for international organizations that facilitate abortions in other countries. The President didn't allow cameras to film the signing, hoping not to provoke anti-abortion groups....It didn't work. Reaction was fast and brutal. Family groups accused Obama of plotting the infanticide of African children. And the Christian faithful say they're now losing faith in Obama.

So it’s not the abortions that are brutal, just the reaction to them. The sad thing is that, coming from the MSM, this isn’t even ironic.

The reference would have been to the "black church goers" ~ they were so tempted by the opportunity to vote for a black man for President they forgot their morals.

End of story ~ an apostate church into killing babies is probably not going to survive.

The “reaction” to Obama’s barbarity isn’t actually “brutal” yet, but it can be if he keeps this up.

Any person who supported or voted for Obama, who made clear his affinity for not just abortion but partial birth abortion, is a questionable Christian.

It is not my job to judge them, but I personally question the authenticity of their Christianity....I’m Catholic and that includes the 54 percent of Catholics that sit next to me.

All Christians that voted for Obama are in need of serious repentance imo.

So making sure that the poor have contraception in order to help our economy is a good thing?

sigh.

Most mainstrean liberal churchgoers and most black churchgoers have more faith in Obama than God. I was even told more than once that God sent Obama to “save America” from the white man.

Reaction was fast and brutal. Family groups accused Obama of plotting the infanticide of African children. And the Christian faithful say they're now losing faith in Obama.

The only reason people are surprised about this is because the news media didn't publicize Obama's abortion record. When I told family members about Obama being against the Born Alive bill, they were SHOCKED.

Liberals always amaze me. They pity terrorists prisoners at Gitmo and worry about torture, but they have absolutely no pity for unborn babies. They are sick people with cold hearts.

Come on, give the guy a break. After all, he did sign the Executive Order in secret so as not to upset any one. Isn't the fact that this was not a photo-op more important than the actual funding of abortion?

You probably didn't get the memo that in this administration perception trumps reality. It is more important to identify with something than to be something.

Our same catholic church that in the fall gave lukewarm warmed-over fuzz to confuse voters enough to think Obama was an acceptable vote now is in full-tilt mode on Freedom of Choice Act, and will have letter-writing campaigns against it.

The mind boggles at the myopia - didnt these knuckleheads REALIZE he was a pro-abort extremist the whole time?!?!?

Dang it, you are right. He is showing his sensitivity to the prolife cause by being quiet about his proabort policies. Cant we all just get along, while we are getting screwed? (sarc)

I was told it was an act just to get elected.Once he was elected he would be pro-life.A Black woman told me this before he won the election.I am going to remind her when I see her again about this.I know she voted for him.

See, only “religious conservatives” care about spending money and we’ve already marginalized them.

it is twisted indeed to defend the terrorists, Mumias, and Guevaras of this world, men who have chosen to slaughter innocents, while condemning the truly innocent unborn to death if the mother is not in the right mood.
