Will Kirsten Gillibrand Shift on Guns? (umm..probably)

Watch her start to hedge on some of the gun issues. She was representing a solid Republican District. Now she has all of New York and a prospective Dem. primary opponent a female congreeswoman who’s husband was killed by a gun toting thug. She was a “blue dog” Democrat, but that will begin to change to win over the NYC liberals.

A CNN report had Miami mayor on and he said that he knew Biden and Biden told him the ban on *assault weapons* would be made permanent. Then CNN showed a chart that showed statistics that were pure propaganda. What they try to show is an increase in deaths from assault rifles. What they left out was that the same number of murders would have occurred, but with hand guns, shotguns, regular rifles.
A 12 gauge or a 45 magnum will do more damage than any AR15 and you don't even have to be a good shot with a 12 gauge.

zer0 and Joe Biden supported the gun ban in D.C. and Obama voted against lifting the ban. zer0 endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership. And last, but not least, zer0 voted four times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family.

zer0 has many pals who share his perspective. Rev. Michael Pfleger has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Daley, has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. Also, zer0’s bosom buddy, George Soros has put millions of dollars into the U.N. for the purpose of internationally disarming law-abiding citizens. Holder, worst gun grabber ever.
zer0 has pretended to support firearm owners and such but his attorney wrote to cable networks and TV stations demanding they do not show the NRA ad that showed his position on gun ownership. They threatened to make a complaint to the FCC if the ad ran.

I heard on the radio today that Gillibrand said that she may adjust her position now that she is representing the entire state.

Gillibrand voted last September for legislation that would have repealed a ban on semiautomatic weapons in Washington, D.C., and end criminal penalties for anyone possessing an unregistered firearm in the city. The bill, which passed the House 260-160 (with the support of 82 Democrats), never advanced in the Senate.

After Gillibrand gave her acceptance speech, Senator Schumer said that he disagrees with her on guns, but she will probably change her mind, after seeing the danger of guns in NYC (I’m paraphrasing).

Well, it looks like she is coming around to Schumer’s thinking, and will be happy to be Schumer’s puppet.

Unfortunately it took 10 years to get rid of the assault weapons ban. Even then, we are still saddled with it in California and a number of other unfortunate states.

And then only because it came with a sunset clause built-in. I'm not aware of a single gun law that's actually been proactively REPEALED with an actual vote required. Even the "class" of '94, who got elected because of the overreaching, didn't actually repeal the law that handed them the majority. Course it would have probably been largely symbolic, as the Sinkmaster was in orifice, but they didn't even bother.

Why is it that only liberals can move the ball? "Conservatives" at best stop further deterioration, and more often do a little deteriorating of their own, just not as fast or as extreme as the "D"s.

It doesn't really matter much if she changes or not, or if this is just pap to placate the NYC media machine. We have the Heller decision, and there are only two ways it goes away. The first is if there are new liberal justices on the SCOTUS who are willing to set aside the stare decisis of the Heller decision, and the only new appointees Obama is likely to make would be in seats that were already in the minority on Heller.

And the other is that there is a gun-grabbing version of the Second Amendment that passes through the House, Senate, and thirty-eight state legislatures. If I were a gun-grabber, I'd count on scenario #1 happening first.

Heller, while FINALLY documenting the obvious fact that the Second Amendment describes an individual right (Duh!) and protecting at least a minimal right to self-defense in the home, leaves a lot of room for “reasonable” regulation, probably either because it was necessary to get Kennedy’s vote or due to a troubling tendency toward government-sucking that sometimes plagues the “conservative” wing of the Court.

Good point, on the "reasonable" regulation thing, but that's not likely to be enacted at the US Congressional level. I think most of our reps (Pubbies and Rats) learned their lesson with the Brady bill. And if that jerk Brady hadn't been Reagan's press secretary, or had just freaking died, we wouldn't have had that abominable piece of legislation.

I see the various jurisdictions adopting varying levels of "reasonable" regulations, and the Heller majority slapping down the ones that were clearly in violation of the spirit of that decision.

Here’s hoping that you’re right. I’m very concerned about HR45 I think it is (the “Blair Holt’s” bill from some Chicago Commie asshat) that requires federal registration and eliminates even in-state private transfers for “certain firearms”, which turns out to be defined as any handgun or semi-auto rifle. There was another one that was almost equally scary but I forget the name and provisions, as well as a bunch of feel good ones with no practical effect, which wouldn’t bother me at all. Then of course the bullet/brass serialization boondoggle.

We are currently in the midst of the transition from apathy to dependency - with Obama and the Democrats pressing the transition forward as fast as they can. Unfortunately history shows that the cycle doesn't run backwards and most civilizations don't last much beyond 200 years.

Our society is much invested in the concept of "Liberty" even though we have not had much for many, many years now. When America falls, it will fall hard.
