The estimated 1.8 million people who attended Tuesday's inauguration reduced the Mall to a barren wasteland, and it will likely require some major work from the National Park Service.

The National Park Service, which is in charge of maintaining the area, already has a maintenance team and a natural-resources staff inspecting the Mall to find the areas most damaged by attendees in order to cordon them off.

In a couple of news reports on Fox today they mentioned a 200 Million Appropriation for resodding the mall. The dems are trying to slip this into the current stimulus package. They’ve seen what Obama supporters have done to the projects where they were born and where most die without ever contributing or even holding a job. They remember what a disgrace Chicago’s Cabrini Greens housing project was.
“We don’t think you just seed the Mall again and again,” Ms. Feldman said. “The problems are deep. We need a program to deal with soil conditions and proper treatment of grass, watering, protective measures of trees. One of the major problems is dealing with the tents and stuff that covers the Mall for weeks at a time and heavy equipment that roams the area.”
The most recent major renovation of Mall took place in 1901, when it was expanded beyond the area between the Washington Monument and the Capitol.
“There is no time like now to do it,” Ms. Feldman said. “All this talk about getting jobs, with working on the infrastructure, include this for D.C.”

I attended GOE and at the end of the festivities we had police call to alleviate this type of problem. We had folks enjoying the Mall and the Memorials who had respect for our national treasures.
These parasites left garbage in an area that is populated by trash receptacles all along the sidewalks. I am appalled!!!
I was at “Stand in the Gap” in the late 1990’s and we blanketed the Mall with almost 1 million guys.
There wasn’t a single piece of noticeable trash anywhere on the grass or sidewalks.

Uh, that turned out to be 800,000 people, according to analysis of satellite photos by Prof. Stephen Doig, didn't it? The "estimated 1.8 million" was one of those beforehand-estimates-that-turned-out-to-be-an-overestimate-but-let's-keep-it-cuz-that-helps-the-Left. Only off by a million?
Rope it off, plow it up and plant new grass. How hard is that?

I have seen cites all over the country remodel, spending million, these low income housing developments. All new windows, siding, grass and trees, not to mention top of the line appliances and hard wood floors etc inside. Within a year the grass is gone, and the building are trashed, door hanging off the hinges and screens all cut. You begin to wonder why they continue to remodel these places.
Funny, the other day we visited with a brother in law, who is a lib, and he was saying he couldn't understand why clean decent people who would qualify, don't apply to live in them. (He managed them in his town) It just goes to show libs don't get it. Why would they want to??
Heck there are far more than that every year on New Years Eve in NYC, and even there, it isn’t that bad!!
I read in several places that the trash cans were taken away for security reasons. There were no trash cans at the mall during the inauguration.
They should have it fixed by summer,,,

One of the biggest problems in our nation is the presence of trash cultures and the simultaneous denial of their existence. There is a white trash culture and there is a black trash culture. Its okay to talk about the white trash, but we must not mention the other one even when we are surrounded by clear evidence of its presence.
Curtis Cooper was an adorable 3-year-old toddler who loved to ride his tricycle. But Curtis had the misfortune to live in Chicago's criminally neglected Cabrini Green housing complex. This hellhole of safety violations was "managed" by Obama's longtime crony, Cullen J. Davis. And so poor Curtis Cooper was crushed to death when an iron gate fell on top of him on June 28, 2008.
Obama is up to his neck in the sewer of Chicago's public housing scandals, along with his mentor, convicted felon Tony Rezko, Allison Davis (Cullen's father), who's Obama's former law firm boss, and Valerie Jarrett, Obama's senior advisor. The Boston Globe reported that, as state senator, Obama directed millions of dollars of public funds to these cronies for them to improve public housing. Instead, they pocketed the money, kicked some back to Obama's campaign, and ignored the public housing in their care, sometimes to the point of outright abandonment.

What I’d like to know is How can nearly 2 million liberals get into Washington DC in sub freezing temps in 1 day when 200,000 liberals couldn’t get out of New Orleans at 90 degrees with four days notice?
