ALBANYThe group New Yorkers Against Gun Violence is asking members to lobby against the possible appointment of Representative Kirsten Gillibrand to the U.S. Senate.
The group urges people to call David Paterson and "tell him you don't want the NRA to take New York's Senate Seat." The e-mail message reads:
Kirsten Gillibrand's record on gun issues is just awful. She has an "A" rating from the NRA as a superior representative of their views, in part because she signed on as an amicus supporter of Heller in the brief filed with the Supreme Court. In that decision, the Supreme Court clearly stated that the second amendment was "not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose". Despite this clear limitation by the Court, Gillibrand was one of the original sponsors of HR 6691 which goes far beyond any reasonable limitations described by Justice Scalia and would have permitted the return of assault weapons to the streets of Washington, D.C. HR 6691 was revised only after vigorous objection by the majority of law enforcement agencies whose job it is to protect the citizens and visitors to our Nation's Capital...

The plot thickens. NY RINOs better wake up.
FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
Thanks for the ping!
This is all phony nonsense. She’s a Neo-Commie from the city. She’s no more pro-gun than Chuck Schumer. She pretended to be more conservative to hold one of the most conservative districts in the state. She’ll vote for any anti-gun laws that come her way. This is silly.
Paterson turns out not to be a dumb tool as the Kennedys calculated. Clever appointment on many fronts.
Just shows that the Gov’s political instincts are sharper than his those in his party care to believe. Pushing a pro-gun girl representing upstaters is a brilliant counterculture move after the Kennedy train wreck.
Maybe so but this is what the gun grabbers are saying about her past record.

Thanks for the link.
She’s the first dem ever to get elected to her position in my district, mainly because of Sweeney’s screwups. I say good riddance.
A Conservative is a Conservative is a Conservative. Let’s not try to demonize this one.
Hopefully choosing her will provoke a destructive primary fight in 2010 allowing a Rep. to win the seat in the general. Plus, we could have the added advantage of a spurned Andy Cuomo going after Patterson for the gubernatorial nomination. Should be interesting.
Mark my words. Any supposed strife over this appointment is completely fabricated. She is fully on board with the liberal agenda and some meaningless gestures toward gun owners will be completely forgotten about in the march onward and leftward.
A Republican will probably win the special election to replace her and then run as the incumbent in 2010.
That would be very good news. I wonder if there is a Republican with enough state-wide clout to challenge for the Senate seat in 2010. I can, maybe, see Giuliani going for governor but not Senator. With Hillary out of the picture this seat might be a pickup.
I can’t think of one. Maybe Pataki, but he seems like ancient history.
She’s got enough upstaters duped into thinking she’s ‘conservative’ anyway, so she’ll win in a walk.
I wish Rudy would run for the Senate, as it would be best for the country. But the best thing for NY would be for him to run for Governor. Of course, I’m leaving this hellhole, so I don’t care much about what’s best for NY.
Alas, I’m stuck, at least for now. One of my complaints against Pataki was the abysmal state he left the GOP in when he left office. No succession planning, no grooming of the next generation, nothing. Can anyone even name his Lt. Governor?
Yep, Pataki was a disaster for the state GOP. But the state GOP is a disaster anyway. They’re more liberal than the damn Democrats.
This place is getting worse and worse. It took us about 2 years to finally get everything done to make our move and this summer, I’ll be in the south instead of dreading another dreary upstate winter. If I never come back, it’ll be too soon.
“in FAVOR OF stem cell research; opposes attempts to partially privatize Social Security. She supports same-sex marriage.” (from wiki)
She can go to hell with the other socialists.
What conservative? Odd that you would post that to me since I was posting what appears to be positive about her.
