If our laws continue to deny the unborn their unalienable right to life, as set forth by our Founding Fathers, we cheapen the liberties and freedom we claim to hold dear and have sworn under oath to protect and defend.
January 22, 2009 - WASHINGTON, D.C - Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), made the following statement on the occasion of the 36th Annual March for Life and the 36th Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision:
Each year on this day, hundreds of thousands of Americans who support the sanctity of life gather to fight for a culture of life in America. Their message of protecting the most vulnerable is shared by millions more across the country, and I applaud their efforts.
They are upholding the declaration put forth in our founding documents: we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life

"On the campaign trail, President Obama called for a reduction in the number of abortions, and I call on him to keep that pledge and announce he will oppose the use of taxpayer funds for abortions and support current limitations that are designed to protect these precious lives."
Last year, President Obama said he would like to see the number of abortions reduced. However, a report posted on the presidents transition website prior to Inauguration Day called for major policy reversals regarding abortion funding limitations and recommended spending over $1.5 billion in federal taxpayer funds for the abortion industry. Pro-life advocates are especially concerned about Obamas vocal support of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would eliminate every restriction on abortion nationwide. Senator DeMint strongly opposes the Freedom of Choice Act.
