THE WORD to Republicans is...NEVER.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER TRUST ANYTHING A DEMOCRAT SAYS.

Never believe anything a Democrat says. Never negotiate with a Democrat ever. You the Republican will be the fool, and we the citizens the victims of your foolishness.

HOLD THE LINE ON NO TAXES PERIOD.

The GOPers are fools if they fall for this. It will only make them as guilty as the liberals. There will be spending caps whether or not the Dems agreed with it. The market won't keep loaning the state money.

Don't fall for this trap GOP!!!

Don’t do it. The Democrats will renege on any promises to cut spending as soon as the ink is dry. They did it to Ronald Regan and they will do it again.

“Given what's happened to them nationally and in this state, if they don't realize they need to change, they're not only driving the state over a cliff but their whole party, too,” he said. “My hope is that the Republican Party will return to its roots, when they had people like Earl Warren who were about more than rigid ideology. That's one of the reasons I left the Republican Party.”

I am not from California, but if the Repubs cave on this issue they get exactly what they deserve. The Demos are effectively turning this into the Repubs issue. How about turning the tables and playing offense. Start with consistently presenting the idea that the root of this problem is the complete inability of Demos to live within their means. The Demos are holding out for an Obamanation bailout and Repubs caving.

We shall see.

They should consult with George H.W. Bush first, to learn about Demoncrat promises.

"Given what's happened to them{GOP} nationally and in this state, if they don't realize they need to change, they're not only driving the state over a cliff but their whole party, too," he said.

Never take advice from the opposition. The national party has been punished because they haven't been fiscally conservative and have come across as intrusive puritans. There are many Republicans/faux conservatives, even here on FR, who support totalitarian police state power, intrusion into the lives of adults for things that only affect an individual and are anti-science. The general public notices this and for obvious reasons want no part of it.

The American people are fiscally conservative, social libertarian, detest abortion, and not anti-intellectual. The present form of the GOP is not this way.

Maybe I'm a little cynical, but... This gives the so-called republicans a perfect excuse to do what they want to do anyway - raise taxes - and claim that it's not their fault at the next election.

The real problem with this plan is that even if it were enacted, the unions, Meathead and the rest of that ilk would be right back with propositions at the next election to undo it.

The GOP is dead. California is on life support. Public employee unions run the State. LA is a third-world municipality.

And when all the businesses and workers leave this awful state, who’s gonna pay those taxes?

If they want to cave and agree to more taxes, let them do this...

No one who is currently paying taxes pays one thin dime more.
But for all of those not paying any taxes, they will now pay 5%. This would include those whose entire income is derived from welfare. Maybe if they saw 5% coming out of their checks each month, they would quit voting for Democrats.

California Republicans want to sign on to new taxes. They are promoting this agreement as cover for themselves.

Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord: "My hope is that the Republican Party will return to its roots, when they had people like Earl Warren who were about more than rigid ideology.

Earl Warren was the then Governor of California that called for the imprisoning of Japanese-American citizens while J. Edgar Hoover did not.

Idiot Democrats.

As the economy sinks into a long depression taxes should only be cut. Screw the CA budget.

Republicans want assurances that Democrats or their political allies wouldn't pour in millions of dollars to defeat a spending cap at the ballot after new taxes were imposed.

Yeah right. Amerigomag you were right. Very sad, the Pubbies are getting ready to be rolled.

The only thing that can be said is that the Democrats lied last time there was a budget impasse. Villines went on Ray Appleton’s show the next morning and said every paper had reported the Dem’s lies as if they were fact. I guess we’ll see this time. I need to call his office as well as Codgill’s, to stand firm.

Lived in California from Fed 1964 to Dec 2004.

There is absolutely NO WAY that the citizens of California can hold the Legislature in Sacramento to any spending caps.
There are more accounting tricks than you could ever imagine to get around what would be released to the press.
