WICHITA, Kan. - An instructor at Wichita Technical Institute is on administrative leave after a student complained about remarks he made while watching Barack Obama's inauguration on television.
The student said she was so offended by the instructor's remarks Tuesday, that she walked out of the computer networking class. The woman, Danyeal Jackson, said the teacher gave a play-by-play mocking what Obama said in his inauguration address.
Jackson said the instructor questioned the intelligence of those who voted for Obama and asserted that the nation's first black president was elected "because of the color of his skin." She said one other student was upset by the remarks but that she was the only one to complain.
School officials say they are taking the complaint seriously, and that they train their instructors to keep politics out of the classroom.
Which is why they were watching television during a computer networking class, I'm sure.
Free speech only works for LIBERAL COLLEGE PROFS.
Life is not going to be fun the next 4-8 years!
It was a presidential inaguration speech. The students should have been allowed to listen to it without commentary. After the speech was over would have been the time to debate the merits.
I would expect the same if it was a Republican giving the speech.
Had he made those remarks during the Bush inauguration.......that would have just been ‘peaches’. Grrr.
By claiming to be a victim, you can really push an agenda, and really cause a lot of harm.
I wouldn’t be happy spending tuition money to watch Obama do anything.

It was a “computer networking class”.....It should NOT even have been shown. That said, the instructor seems to have been a fool to believe he could make commentary like he did without it coming back to bite him....

The schools teach our young to accept being queers & this drip is offended because someone doesn’t like obozo. I don’t like obozo and he did get elected because of his skin because he sure didn’t get elected for his nonexistent qualifications. How stupid can this student be? Flunk the student.
Didn't they just do that by suspending that instructor?
The instructor’s mistake was to believe there is freedom of speech.
In general, I agree with his observation on the intelligence of Obama voters. And he did make it based on his skin color.

I’m a college student and my professor canceled class so that we could all “prepare” for the inauguration, even though it was a morning class that didn’t even conflict with the time of the inauguration.
And...?
So no other teachers voiced any support or condemnation in any of the other classrooms?
