President Commutes Sentences for Ramos & Compean on Final Day of Office
U.S. Border Control [usbc@usbc.org] ^ | 01/19/2009 | Edward I. Nelson

Dear XXXX:

After making them suffer two long and painful years in solitary confinement in a maximum security prison, President Bush, on his very last day of office, having received more than five million emails, letters, postcards and telephone calls from citizens all across the country, finally commuted the sentences of Ignacio "Nacho" Ramos and Jose Compean, two brave and decorated Border Patrol agents, improperly charged with the non-crime of using a firearm as they stopped a drug dealer from bringing in more than 700 pounds of narrcotics into the U.S.

Please accept my thanks for your great effort in working for the release of these two men who can now reunite with their families and begin their lives over again.

Edward I. Nelson, Chairman Chairman U.S. Border Control 8180 Greensboro Drive, #1070 McLean, VA 22012 ednelson@usbc.org www.usbc.org

I’ll miss President Bush. I’m wearing my Bush-Cheney hat all this week just to annoy people.

Commuted sentence??? I think this ltill leaves them as convicted fellons with no right to own fire arms, vote or work in law enforcement.

Yes, pardons were the correct answer, but this is better than 10 more years in prison under the Zero administration.

I was hoping for full pardons, but I’ll take this over nothing.

Look for the Obanassiah one up President Bush by pardoning Ramos and Compean over the top of Bush’s commutation very soon after the immaculation.

You think right, Commutation does not remove the taint of conviction and leaves them open to civil sanctions as well as criminal sanctions. You also left out that as convicted felons they will not automatically get their right to vote restored.
This decision is not unlike many of the Bush Decisions, calculated to almost do the right thing while giving the left a victory.
Sadly, he lacked the foresight to use a crisis to consolidate power. He was given so many chances and squandered them all.

That's OK... they can earn a lot more jack in the private sector and/or Conservative movement as American Heroes.

Anyone here ever wonder why none of the other Border Patrol agents on the scene fired at the fleeing suspect?

Give them an opportunity to get their jobs back with full back pay, or infact just give them back pay, with NO criminal record. Try that one George!

No.

I have wondered why they let the sack o' crap go, only to be caught AGAIN smuggling more drugs over the border later however.

I have also pondered that their mistake was only wounding said sack o' crap.
