WASHINGTON (AP) — Last year was the eighth warmest year on record, according to the National Climatic Data Center.

The world's temperature in 2008 tied that of 2001 according to the center, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Preliminary calculations show the world's average temperature for 2008 was 0.88 degree Fahrenheit above the 20th Century average of 57.0 degrees F.

The ranking means that all of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1997.

Climate scientists around the world have raised concerns about global warming caused by the so-called greenhouse effect in which chemicals, largely generated by human activity, trap solar radiation.

How does this mix with the reports that the last 10 years have been cooler?

They just wanted to release it in time for the coronation.

I get that...There are also reports on CNN today about how military recruitment is way up, met goals for first time since 2004. I have seen reports saying the opposite each quarter and each year during that time that goals were reached all along. I would like to believe the first, but who knows which sources are accurate anymore. All we know is the sources that promote global warming, bash the GOP and the ones that help Dems/Obama are the ones always quoted on CNN.

More BS from Hansen and his cronies at NOAA/NASA. Two points that are causing the appearance of warming are the urban heat effect and loss of many, rural stations overseas including in Russia Siberia. See this website and the several articles on why the federal data is misleading at best and just plain wrong at worst:

Maybe I am just being naive, but I was taught that science was apolitical. It has gotten to the point that there is no scientific method anymore.

Three mornings ago, I found the bowl of white vinegar I keep on my living room windowsill frozen SOLID.

[yes, it was -inside-]

At least we finally located our pesky “mystery draft”.

Someone at the NCDC should be using the fume hood instead of letting those fumes into the air ducts, duuuuude.

More hockey stick nonsense.

Total lib BS.

They want us to believe what they say because they say it (loudly) over and over...

and not believe our own lying eyes, and shivering bods.

I guess we're making headway if the LAT is using their catty "so-called" in reference to Global Warming®

That may be what we were taught. However, in practice, science has never not been political. The only difference now is that it has taken on religious proportions.

If you look at the history of science and the crap that every good [scientifically VALID] idea has had to go up against, the AGENDAS have always been there.

Somehow the LA Times forgot about 1934 being the hottest year on record and with the record cold we experienced in December 2008 can hardly be a record warm year either. These are just made up “facts” to bolster the global warming cult.

OK, I’ll be the one to ask: WHY do you keep a bowl of white vinegar on the window sill? The odor would become annoying to me, if it was there constantly. What is the benefit?
