He is going to “close” it but:

“It’s unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon.”

Is this like those signs on the highways that say “road legally closed” that everyone ignores for decades?

I think a lot of them will be sentenced and end up 50 miles south of here...Florence, Colorado. A holding cell for human scum.

Between the tax increases during a recession that will be the final nail in the coffin of this nation's economy and the gutting of security measures put in place after 9/11 which have kept us safe for over seven years, and now closing Gitmo, they will have to get Barack Obama out of the country until the next election for his own safety. He'll have to run the country from a safehouse in Venezuela.

This guy is going to get a lot of innocent Americans slaughtered before he's done.

In the book “Reagan's War” there is the story about the time that the USA was preparing to have training exercises near Cuba. Castro sends his people near the US interests section to “protest”. Carter cancels the exercises and Castro was laughing his ass off. Deja vu.

Obama to Issue Order Closing Gitmo During First Week in Office

...A slap in the face to all those who lost life and limb to capture the incarcerated terrorists.

["Many of the Guantanamo detainees are cleared for release, and others could be sent back to their native countries and held there. But many nations have resisted Bush administration efforts to repatriate the prisoners back home. Both Obama advisers said it's hoped that nations that had initially resisted taking detainees will be more willing to do so after dealing with the new administration."]

Man, are these people naive.

Is this guy for real? I am braced for the (fill in the blank) Commander in Chief in history. It’s embarrassing.

Wonderful, this will make the American people so happy to know that their new “chief executive” means business with terrorists! Oops, I think the people got it wrong AGAIN!

Where’s the real Jack Bauer when we need him? The threat of just having him around would have the terrorists spilling their guts to him.

STATEMENT OF SENATOR KYLTERRORISM SUBCOMMITTEE HEARING ON GUANTANAMO DETAINEES

DECEMBER 11, 2007

At least 30 detainees who have been released from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility have since returned to waging war against the United States and its allies. A dozen released detainees have been killed in battle by U.S. forces, while others have been recaptured. Two released detainees later became regional commanders for Taliban forces. One released Guantanamo detainee later attacked U.S. and allied soldiers in Afghanistan, killing three Afghan soldiers. Another former detainee has killed an Afghan judge. One released detainee led a terrorist attack on a hotel in Pakistan, and also led a kidnapping raid that resulted in the death of a Chinese civilian. This former detainee recently told Pakistani journalists that he plans to “fight America and its allies until the very end.” (See “U.S. Divulges New Details on Released Gitmo Inmates,” CNN, May 14, 2007; John Mintz, “Released Detainees Rejoining The Fight,” The Washington Post, October 22, 2004.

“The suicide bombing is the first such attack in Iraq linked to a former Guantanamo detainee, though the Defense Intelligence Agency has estimated that as many as three dozen former Guantanamo detainees are confirmed or suspected of having returned to terrorist activities. “

Maybe one in this incoming administration should be required to house several detainees in their own homes.

...what to do with the estimated 250 Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there.

If they let them into this country, that 250 more democratic voters for ACORN to sign up.
