I like Pat Buchanan. I do. He's wise, funny and charming. But every once in a while . . .
Like tonight. If Buchanan wants to criticize Israel's conduct of the current war, and its treatment of the Palestinians, so be it. But in doing so, is it really necessary to employ terms associated with the Nazis? Appearing on "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," Buchanan accused Israel of carrying out a "blitzkrieg" against Gaza and turning it into a "concentration camp."

Buchanan’s blitzkrieg on Israel ping to Today show list.
It just so happens that the "every once in a while" occurs when he's discussing Israel. Incredible consistency.
So what post in the O/Clinton Redux Administration is Pat auditioning for??
Just lost TOTAL respect for him! :-(
And what are these: Einsatzkommando???

Buchanan is a drooling idiot!
I used to like Buchanan ages ago. I think he’s in dire need of some Aricept, stat!
People who still admire Pat Buchanan have a problem.
ML/NJ
I see he is still bitter he lost a relative in a concentration camp; falling out of a guard tower.
I really like listening to Monica Crowley’s radio show but when she has Buchanan on and calls him her really good friend, I question her sanity. Unlike you, I really don’t like or trust him.
Consedering that Patty isn’t a conservative and went over the cliff a number of years ago nothing he says makes any difference to me, I never listen to a thing he says.
In other words he’s an idiot, in the same class as Gnewt, the global warming idiot.
I’m long past being surprised when he pulls crap like this. In fact, the surprise for me would be if he didn’t trash Israel.
Some people will not be happy until Jews stand still while they are shot at. (Not standing still will induce undue stress in their shooters and added bullet expenses. How unthoughtful!)
Buchanan’s a nutjob, plain and simple.
Blitzkrieg was a brilliant tactical innovation by the Germans. Is he saying the Israelis are tactically superior? But we already knew that.

In a 1977 column, Buchanan said that despite Hitler’s anti-Semitic and genocidal tendencies, he was “an individual of great courage...Hitler’s success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path.” (The Guardian, 1/14/92)
Shocker.
I have never been able to get a visceral understanding of anti-Semitism or where it comes from. Both Buchanan and I are cradle Catholics, yet it infected his brain and never touched mine, so that’s not the answer.
I just don’t get it.
“Buchanan is a drooling idiot!”
I don’t understand him . . . I used to have the HIGHTEST regard for him and his opinions . . . what’s going on with these icons of the right?
The man has never been a friend to Israel, and he has spoken a little too chummily about Hitler than I can stomach.
Buchnazi has joined the NYT as a highly accurate bellweather: take a position contrary to everything they espouse, and you will be right 95% of the time.
While I didn’t support him, back in ‘96 I defended him against those anti-semitism charges. He continues to make me regret doing so.
renaissance
Buchanan puts the “dick” in “predictable”.
Just quoting a spokesman for the Vatican.
Pity
He fell out of a guard tower.
I worked on Buchanon’s campaign in 96
The local campaing efforts were taken over, without permission I might add, by someone who was a David Duke supporter
I was stunned that when I reported it to several other persons in the area that they said that David Duke was an okay guy
I reported it to the state coordinator who almost had a heart attack
Since then, racism and anti-semitism has always been on my mind when I hear of Buchanon, not because of him, but because he attracts people like that
but this time, to say this?
Pat is officially a nazi.
As I’ve said before, this business of equating Israel with the Nazis is a form of Holocaust denial. If Gaza = Auschwitz, then the Holocaust no longer has any meaning.
Of course, coming from Pat, it’s no surprise at all.
Has Pat been right about anything? I mean on purpose and not by accident.
Exactly right. Just when you think he's back on his meds he starts babbling inanities like this while blowing bubbles in his own drool.
“Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich, Pat Buchanan. There is a pattern here. These people fall asleep next to the wrong vegetable:”
Add to this list Billy Graham who said that he thought Hillary Clinton would make a good president . . . this coming from a “moral leader” about someone who stole over $100,000 property from the White House, destroyed the career of numerous civil employees, looted the office of a dead man, obstructed justice, and Lord knows what else she did.
I’ve lost all respect for Mr. Graham . . . he’s worthless as a moral leader . . . on par with Jessie Jackson and Sharpton.
Why doesn’t Buchanan go join Hamas? Or book a ticket on Cynthia McKinney’s Peace Boat?
Zactly.
The old man is a bitter loon, left out in the cold by the W administration.
Why does a person’s critical position regarding Israel automatically make them anti-semitic? Do you support gay marriage? If not then I guess you are homophobic, right?
I have read this quote from Buchanan before, and just as then I am again forced to wonder just what he said that was so awful. Of course Hitler had a genius for manipulation and seeing how to motivate people and how best to take advantage of them. Why do people think recognizing this means that one also agrees with what Hitler did or believed?
This is applicable in the middle east today. Paper tiger, anyone? Bin Laden would have given us much more respect had we wiped-out portions of Afganistan, making them uninhabitable for many years.
This foe (a foe of Israel too) will require a regular knocking back on it's heels for some time. Displaying no weakness or mushiness will be interpreted as strength, as it should be. Pat's theory makes sense, his bias doesn't.
Put Buchanan and Blo’Reilly in the same room and the joint would blow up.........hot gas explosion. I can’t stand either one of those pompous arseholes.
Uh.... "an individual of great courage...Hitlers success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone..."
Sorry, but "gifted & courageous" don't spring to mind when Hitler is mentioned. But I will give him "dark & mysterious"...
“Why does a persons critical position regarding Israel automatically make them anti-semitic?”
It doesn’t....unless they are always ‘critical’ in every situation. Unfortunately, Buchanan always seems to come down on what-ever side is against the jews. It is probably deep seated and an ‘inherited’ mindset, that for some reason, unconsciously, he doesn’t dare upset.
LOL. That’s too dumb to warrant a response.
Pat is like a crazy old uncle—a Jew hating crazy old uncle.
I wish he would shut up—I can’t stand the sound of his whiny nasal voice.
He has a history of pro-Nazi, anti Semitic remarks.
No surprise here.
“Pat is like a crazy old unclea Jew hating crazy old uncle.”
yes. And after having had many conversations with SSPX’ers, I often wonder if he leans that way, because he sounds an awful lot like those folks. Especially when it comes to the Jooos.
I hereby volunteer to spit in Pat’s face. I used to like the guy. Not anymore.
Mark
Pat, sit down and color.
Billy Graham is feeble and 90 yr. old, and never was very astute about politics, but that was hardly his specialty. Age-related mental deterioration is probably a factor in the case of Pat Robinson also. Most people are well past their peak by 60, and outright dementia is very common in those over 80.
To be very frank, Pat Buchannan is an anti-semetic and a racist. I have at least one of his books and there are some exellent points made in what he writes. Sometimes. At other times he comes across like the jerk he is.
