BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The U.S. Army is investigating allegations that Special Forces troops killed an al Qaeda suspect in cold blood and cut off his finger during an overnight operation near Baghdad earlier this month.

The U.S. Army is investigating the killing of Iraqi bomb-making suspect, Hardan al-Jaburi.

The December 10 raid, on a house in the Salman Pak district, 15 miles south of Baghdad, targeted suspected bomb-maker Hardan al-Jaburi.

In a statement, the U.S. military said al-Jaburi, armed with an AK-47, confronted troops conducting the raid.

"Perceiving hostile intent, the forces engaged the armed man, killing him," the statement said.

But his relatives, assisted by a tribal leader, complained in a meeting with U.S. officials in Baghdad's Green Zone that al-Jaburi was singled out by troops after he was rounded up along with his brothers.

Soldiers ordered him into the family's house and then shot him dead, the relatives said.

You know, it’s a wonder that any of our service men volunteer for SpecOps or any other specialized combat MOS considering the crap like this they have to go through to just do their jobs.

Unless they are reviewing the possibility it took too long to get the job done, I’m inclined to say drop it and move on.

I wholeheartedly agree. They fight with their hands tied under Bush; cannot imagine an Obama administration.

The army puts our soldiers at risk giving them difficult and dangerous jobs and then has a bunch of investigators second guess everything they do and threaten them with prosecution. These desk bound investigators should be forced to go out on patrol and risk their lives before they are allowed to second guess the real fighting men.

“The dead man’s family said soldiers on the raid cut off his finger and said the mutilation was an act of intimidation.”

Intimidation?

More likely IDENTIFICATION

Amen to that!! I'm sure these guys have sufficient skills to make a living otherwise. While being thankful for dedicated people like them, one must wonder why they are wasting their time dodging the slings and arrows of people like the sob sisters at ACLU.

and cut off his finger

Souvenir?

Or perhaps the real story is that his finger was already missing from one of his little bomb-making projects.

In arab culture, if someone in your family is killed, the family gets a payoff. We have honored that tradition which is a mistake.

Could be, the family was not offered the money because they were Al Qaeda, now they want their cash.

My brother works in Baghdad, before that he was in Afghanistan, he is home for this month, the stories he tells of his dealings with them are almost funny. They will lie directly to your face without even flinching.

Heck, we are closing Gitmo, so we can’t take prisoners...and the troops are NOT going to let him walk away to shoot a American later. What’s left? Take no prisoners.

"Perceiving hostile intent, the forces engaged the armed man, killing him," the statement said.

What incentive do our forces have to take POWs? If we send them to GITMO they'll be treated better than if they were at home. They'll probably be released in CONUS because their parent country won't take them back. And to add insult to injury, we'll have to pay for their legal defense.

I mean this one is really a "No Brainer".
