Transition: President-elect Obama chooses as his science adviser and head of our weather research agency two global warming activists who believe your SUV is driving us over a climate cliff.

Personnel is policy, the political cliche goes, and on Saturday the Obama administration's policy on global warming became clear.

He nominated Harvard physicist John Holden to be his science adviser as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, and marine biologist Jane Lubchenco to head to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Both are global warming true believers. "Global warming is a misnomer," Holden said a year ago in a speech at Harvard. "It implies something gradual, something uniform, something quite possibly benign, and what we're experiencing is none of those. There is already widespread harm . . . occurring from climate change. This is not just a problem for our children and grandchildren."

There is indeed widespread harm being done by changes in the weather as the nation is gripped by subzero cold and record snowfalls that have reached spots like Las Vegas and Malibu, Calif. The earth is cooling and has been for the last decade due to a decline in solar activity and changes in Pacific Ocean currents.

The worst aspects of Obama's nominations here were that both of these people are what are known as "political scientists" ~ that is, folks so far removed from actual science as to be little more than mouthpieces for fundraising activities.

Alas, Obama has no background in science and imagines that the best scientists are little more than lawyerly folk who failed to take the bar exam.

The social engineers have done the easy part. Convincing the sheeple to nod their head and say “yeah, yeah, global warming, where’s my stinkin eco friendly bulb?”

Now comes the hard part. Convincing the sheeple to pay $9/per gallon for gas and drive go carts.

From Reason

Like earlier Obama appointments to the Green Team, Lubchenco is a strong proponent of rationing carbon dioxide emissions to control man-made global warming. Lubchenco organized the AAAS 2007 statement on climate change which declared:

"The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society. Accumulating data from across the globe reveal a wide array of effects: rapidly melting glaciers, destabilization of major ice sheets, increases in extreme weather, rising sea level, shifts in species ranges, and more. The pace of change and the evidence of harm have increased markedly over the last five years. The time to control greenhouse gas emissions is now...."

"The growing torrent of information presents a clear message: we are already experiencing global climate change. It is time to muster the political will for concerted action. Stronger leadership at all levels is needed. The time is now. We must rise to the challenge. We owe this to future generations."

Markedly changed in the last 5 years. Right. Everything was fine while the Toon was prez.

I learned a good deal more of common-sense environmentalism when I travelled on Yogi’s Ark.

Is that “Lubchenko” or “Lysenko”?

We’re already getting near to the point where politically unacceptable scientists are being harrassed and intimidated.

Next stop, the Gulag.
