Schools Unleash 'Eco-Kids' to Badger Their Parents
Pajamas Media ^ | December 19 | Frank Furedi

Educators sometimes give the impression that they are in the business of protecting their pupils from the negative influence of their parents. Schools are sometimes devoted to the project of correcting the “outdated values” that parents have taught their children. That’s bad enough! However, in recent times policymakers and educators have also embraced the idea that through influencing children they can reeducate parents. Instead of parents socializing their children they advocate a reversal in roles.

It is in the domain of environmental education that the project of socialization in reverse is most systematically pursued.

Environmental educators want children to "nag, pester, bug, and torment" their elders into a green lifestyle...

It appears as though these “evironmental educators” could be setting these children up for some child “abuse.” When I was a kid, we went to school to learn, not to be brainwashed by Communists and Marxists.

...educators want children to "nag, pester, bug, and torment" their elders into...

Gosh, didn't we have some folks who tried that back in the 20th century? And those cases turned out so well for all concerned...

“...educators have also embraced the idea that through influencing children they can reeducate parents.”

The Khmer Rouge embraced the exact same idea in Cambodia...

...or “Lefty comes around, full-circle.” Fine. ...one polluting car, one polluting house (with heat, lights,...) per whole, real family. Remember: divorcing/cohabiting hoes pollute twice as much!

Is there an 800 number kids can call and turn in their parents and other adults for not being green enough?

Russell calls on children to “channel their pester power and issue fines against their parents and other transgressors.”

Good way for a kid to get a fresh rosy glow on their "cheeks."

This might work for a doofus who voted for Obama, for the rest it might be the last straw which would lead them to try home schooling (in which the parent is a parent/teacher and the child is a child/student.)

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Sure kid.

But you have to lead by example.

So we will sell your video games and toys, you can start walking if you want to go some place, we will close your room to save energy. We will get down the coffee mill so you can grind coffee for your dad and me in the morning.

Here are some seeds so you can plant a garden. And say hello to Ms Needle and Mr Thread. You can start recycling your clothes.

My daughters have a greenie teacher in their private Christian school. My once envioronmentally friendly daughter is totally turned off the whole environmental movement.

She says that her friends get mad at her for taking bottled water to school and not drinking every last bit of water.

The teacher wants to compost everything. They had a field trip to a dirty, smelly recycling plant (I went and thought it was interesting).

I think my daughter doesn’t like the pressure that the teacher and the kids put on everyone to “save the planet”.

Wow, I like your answers to this conflict. They would be mine also if I had children still living at home. If my grandchildren mention these green ideas, I’ll tell my children your ideas. : )
