Taking Yes For An Answer
The Daily Dish (The Atlantic) ^ | 19 Dec 2008 | Andrew Sullivan

Taking Yes For An Answer Dish readers will know my own conflicted feelings about the selection of Rick Warren for the Inaugural Invocation. But feelings must at some point cede to reason. And I sense an understandable but, the more I think about it, misjudged response on the part of my fellow gays and lesbians. ...we may be pushing away from a real opportunity to engage and win hearts and minds...I think Obama is different. ... Do gays and lesbians want to be a part of this - or sit fuming on the sidelines at symbolic slights? I know the arguments against this...I love my church, however much pain it still inflicts on itself and others. And I am not alone in this, as I have discovered these past two decades. If I cannot pray with Rick Warren, I realize, then I am not worthy of being called a Christian. And if I cannot engage him, then I am not worthy of being called a writer. And if we cannot work with Obama to bridge these divides, none of us will be worthy of the great moral cause that this civil rights movement truly is. The bitterness endures; the hurt doesn't go away; the pain is real. But that is when we need to engage the most, to overcome our feelings to engage in the larger project, to understand that not all our opponents are driven by hate, even though that may be how their words impact us. To turn away from such dialogue is to fail ourselves, ... and to miss the possibility of the Obama moment. It can be hard to take yes for an answer. But yes is what Obama is saying. And we should not let our pride or our pain get in the way.

I think Obama is different.

That’s one of the few things that Andi has written that I have to agree with...and Andi knows different when he sees it.

Tone down the capital letters and exclamation points.
You seem so gay.
Seriously.

Pathetic window dressing by Oabortion. Watch what he does to the executive orders on embryonic stem cell research and funding of abortion.

The title you created

"ANDREW SULLIVAN FORGIVES OBAMA FOR CHOOSING RICK WARREN!!! “

didn't match the title at the source and had to be changed.

Wow. Is this what they call triangulation? I want to be pissed at Warren, but the lefties attacking the Obama Queen makes me pause. I hope this was accidental and it is not an indication of things to come. If Obama can neutralize the opposition by fragmenting us, this will be a frustrating eight years.

My apologies. I post here roughly twice a year, and just forgot the rules. And sorry for the uber-capitalization- I guess if I’m commenting on a shrill blogger, I should make it a point not to become one!

Since it looks like my original commentary was deleted (was that part of the copyright issue?), I’ll just say it again- my problem here is that he has become a caricature of his already ridiculous self. If Sullivan has a cold cup of coffee, he finds a way to blame Dubbya for it. He is the most shrill commentator around, but all of a sudden he just happens to finds “reason” at the moment his savior does something that he considers unsavory. I also enjoyed his comment that he can’t be a “real Christian” if he doesn’t embrace Warren, so to speak. I’m sure his fellow gays & lesbians would object to not being “real Christians” for not meeting this standard. Plus, after years and years of Sullivan screaming about people that do not accept the gay agenda 100+%, now he decides, “Welllll...maybe we should be more tolerant”? And he calls HUGH HEWITT a hack?! What a hypocrite, and what a blowhard...again, so to speak...
