Nanny star Fran Drescher wants Hillary Clinton's senate seat

ACTRESS Fran Drescher, star of The Nanny, has thrown her hat in the ring to contest the US senate seat being left vacant by Hillary Clinton.

"Fran Drescher, actress, women's health advocate and public diplomacy envoy for the US State Department, announced that she is throwing her hat into the ring of contenders for the senate seat being vacated by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Rodham Clinton," Drescher spokesman Jordan Brown said.

Drescher, 51, is best known for her starring role in the 1990s TV comedy The Nanny, but since her diagnosis with uterine cancer, she has become a women's health advocate.

She was named a state department public envoy in September and recently toured eastern European countries to raise awareness of women's health issues.

It will be up to New York Governor David Paterson to appoint a successor for Senator Clinton, who still must be confirmed by her senate colleagues for the cabinet post.

Drescher will be up against political heavyweights Caroline Kennedy and New York Attorney-General Andrew Cuomo.

She will also be the latest in a long line of celebrities who believe they have what it takes to switch from entertainment to politics.

In the US alone, dozens of actors and other entertainers have made the move to politics.

Probably best-known of them is former president and Bedtime for Bonzo actor Ronald Reagan.

“So, just what makes one Senatorial material in your book?”

First of all, someone who’s knowlegable on the issues (national, international, and state issues). Someone who has played a role in public policy in some way. Fran Drescher meets the legal eligibility, I never contested that.

Yes, I am aware of that. But then, it would be Drescher, that the NYers would be depending on, to represent them in the Senate to get them their pieces of the Tax money pie.

I’m just going on what I heard on a radio interview several years back. She was talking about breast cancer and I didn’t know who the heck they were talking to until they identified her.

As far as Varney, I did not know that!

Another shrill voice that cuts right through you.

LOL, she's perfect then! And she has the 'credentials', left leaning, pro-abortion, loves Hil and the leadership. Doesn't matter if she knows little of politics, another empty suit hoisted to power. And she'll love every minute of it.
