gunman walks at the Chatrapathi Sivaji Terminal railway station in Mumbai, India, Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008. Teams of gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular restaurant, hospitals and a crowded train station in coordinated attacks across India's financial capital, killing people, taking Westerners hostage and leaving parts of the city under siege Thursday, police said. A group of suspected Muslim militants claimed responsibility. AP

I'm thinking back to the Muslim in Utah that opened fire in the Mall and a couple of off duty LEO’s took him on.

(Did I say ‘Muslim’? I meant “a youth” and also a victim of gun violence. My bad.)

I doubt any local police force would stand up against what was basically a Special Op’s force. There were brave Indians who gave their lives to stop this attack, they acted with courage, and the political leadership acted faster than the US government would have. We’d still be negotiating and sending in donuts.

“There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything,” he said.

UNBELIEVABLE......do they not have real bullets or was it pure cowardice that so many Mumbai police officers would not engage? Pure panic and fear, a sense that "if I don't fire at them then maybe they'll ignore ME"??? Why would armed police officers pass up the chance to take out terrorists busy shooting down so many innocent people???

But what angered Mr D'Souza almost as much were the masses of armed police hiding in the area who simply refused to shoot back. "There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything," he said. "At one point, I ran up to them and told them to use their weapons. I said, 'Shoot them, they're sitting ducks!' but they just didn't shoot back."

The photographer was a brave man. The Indian cops are obviously a joke and are cowards. The same thing happened at Columbine where the cops waited outside for the shooting to stop.

Sebastian D'Souza, a picture editor at the Mumbai Mirror, whose offices are just opposite the city's Chhatrapati Shivaji station, heard the gunfire erupt and ran towards the terminus.

Any relation to Dinesh D'Souza?

I’m looking at that picture and wondering why the guy is still vertical. Then I read the story. Oyvey.

To be fair, none of us knows how we would react when confronted with a situation like this.

How could you witness a slaughter like that and not want to shoot back? Were the “cops” who wouldn't shoot back muslims, too? Just curious...

Heaven help the police officer who returns fire, against a terrorist, and accidentally grazes a civilian with a richote, or from debris. The policeman will be vilified and have his career destroyed.

This is what happens when a society places too many constraints on those we hire to protect us. You wind up with people who are either too inept to do their job, so scared to do their job, or view their job solely as a paycheck.

Consider the law enforcement in New Orleans who abandoned the city after Katrina. Those who fled, taking new cars with them were hired back on the force. Those who were video taped pushing shopping carts through WalMart and looting are again back on the force. The few who remained at their posts are treated neither better, or worse, than those who abused the privileges afforded them by the citizens of New Orleans.

I would think that like a ‘Good Samaritan Law’ that protects a citizen making a good faith effort to save another; there be a comparable law allowing the Law Officers (and anyone else who is armed) to take out the bad guys, with ‘reasonable’ immunity from personal and property damage. That means that if you can take a head shot at a bad guy, but graze Grandma- you won't be sued by Grandma for her inconvenience and pain. This makes the whole ‘human shield’ tactic kind of meaningless - because every sharpshooter will kill the hostage taker to send a very clear message. The scum can run, but they can't hide.

How many of these guys were there? 15?

15 people holding off and shutting down an entire city, and 5,000 security forces, is pretty amazing.

BUT, ACCORDING TO DIANE FINESWINE, BABS BOXER, CHUCKY SCHUMER, ET AL – OOOOO – GUNS ARE SOOOO DANGEROUS!! In what may be a perverse form of population control, these MORONS – many of whom are themselves armed or have armed people around them -- would prefer us to have to call 911 – and DIE while the cops are en-route.

These murderous muzzies are HERE and the more of us who CARRY CONCEALED, the more of them we can “off” BEFORE they kill on the scale of their recent activities in Mumbai.

WHY THEY WANT OUR GUNS!!

The cops probably had little or no ammo. Sorta like being on gaurd duty at the motor pool when I was in the army. Rifle and pistol but no ammo. When we were at the ammo dump on gaurd duty we got three rounds each.

I heard one account ... That some of the terrorists attacked a police station killing the police. They then took their clothes and used the police vehicles to make their way to the other sites they had targeted.

What was wrong with the armed policemen? Were they in on the conspiracy?
