Indian commandos have killed the last Islamic militants holed up inside Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel, ending the more than two-day assault on India's financial capital, the city's police chief told AFP.
"All (combat) operations are over. All the terrorists have been killed," Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor said, 59 hours after the attacks began.
The historic, seafront Taj Mahal hotel was the last area in Mumbai where gunmen were still holed up.
Gafoor said the overall death toll from attacks stood at around 155 confirmed killed.

it’s now about to get interesting
155 Killed...wonder if that includes the Terrorist count?
I don’t think that you should expect anything drastic to happen. There will be angry words spoken behind closed doors between India and Pakistan but definitely no nukes. Pakistan and India are in a MAD situation as we and the Soviet Union were during the cold war.
Part of the Terrorist goals are to cause discontent between
Pakistan and India. Nothing new in the Al Quaeda playbook.
But the people in the streets might have something to say about it once the shock wears off. Wouldnt want to be a moslem in that city (or in India) right now.
How many terrorist were involved?
I thought they took one into custody and he was giving them all the details. Hmmmm..... maybe they got all the info out of him they needed and added him to the death toll?
Good question.
Indeed this was a brilliant attack by al Queda because of its strategic possibilities. Any confrontation between India and Pakistan will work to its advantage except a full nuclear attack by India on the NW Territories, al Queda’s base. A war that weakens Pakistan will allow it to run even more rampant in the NW. Indian troops moving towards Kashmir will draw Pakistnni forces out of the NW weakening the War on Terror there and in Afganistan.
Had this attack occurred prior to the election McCain would have won now they realize the tremendous weakness which this nation has demonstrated and will take full advantage of it.
This is a very significant opening event.
I hope those who planned this are caught and punished.
The question the Democrats will inevitably ask: What did the United States do to cause this terrorist attack?
>Wouldnt want to be a moslem in that city (or in India) right now.<
Nothing shocking will happen in India. You must not forget that 20% of the Indian population is Muslim, so they are a force to be reckoned with. I don’t think that the country has the stomach for a civil war that would only result in its devastation.
In the case of a civil war, India can expect 1000s of mujahadeen from Muslim countries to infiltrate it analogous to what happened in Afghanistan when the Russians invaded the country.
Deepak Chopra has said over and over for the last three days it is all our fault and all we have to do is make nice with the Muslims and all will be well in the world... Wonder what the families of innocents killed by these monsters would have to say to Chopra?
>What did the United States do to cause this terrorist attack?<
It elected the wrong man to occupy the WH. The situation will be easy picking from now on for Muslim militants.
Welcome to Free Republic, and Yes I am hoping for an end to all Jihadist
Too Bad Deepak Chopra was not having lunch at the Taj Hotel, when the shooting started, he might of changed his tune.
Don't be hasty in your judgments.
