Obama Is Introduced to Reality
American Chronicle ^ | 11-26-08 | David Karki

Posted on 11/26/2008 5:51:30 AM PST by SJackson

Campaign: Barack Obama said earlier this year he supported legislation that would have mandated that the CIA and other agencies subscribe to a 2006 Army field manual´s guidelines on interrogation practices, which would have the effect of banning harsh treatment of detainees such as waterboarding.

Now: Although Obama issued a statement during the campaign supporting the idea of applying the Army field manual interrogation standard to all agencies, not just the Pentagon, a senior campaign adviser to Obama left the door open to applying another standard.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a "current government official familiar with the transition," reported this week that "Obama may decide he wants to keep the road open in certain cases for the CIA to use techniques not approved by the military, but with much greater oversight."

Campaign: Obama, saying the war was a mistake by President Bush and hopelessly lost, pledges to remove all troops from Iraq as soon as possible.

Now: "The war is over and we won." – blogger Michael Yon, 11/14/08. Will Obama violate the security agreement signed by the U.S. in good faith, which keeps forces in Iraq until 2011?

Campaign: Obama promises to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on gays openly serving in the military.

Now: President-elect Barack Obama will not move for months, and perhaps not until 2010, to ask Congress to end the military's decades-old ban on open homosexuals in the ranks, two people who have advised the Obama transition team on this issue say.

Campaign: Barack Obama repeatedly berates the Bush Administration for large deficits.

Now: Obama says on 60 Minutes that fixing the economy will require running even bigger deficits.

Even the French Army doesn't retreat this much. Everywhere President-elect Obama turns, reality keeps smacking him in the face and giving him wake-up calls. As easy as it is to spew smooth-sounding empty platitudes on the campaign trail when the media is your propaganda organ, delivering on promises that are more faith-based than fact-based is much more difficult. And Obama has begun to find this out the hard way in just the 20 days since he was elected.

Whether you're talking about the hard realities of war, of economics or of science, there is a common truth: The way they work doesn't change simply because arrogant politicians think they can wave a magic wand and make it so. And ignoring how they work, so one can plunge ahead with implementing ill-conceived and unfounded plans, is a recipe for disaster. No amount of good intent can offset it.

I think he simply lied about these things, though I admit there's plenty in the clueless category.

Obama's bin lyin about his entire life story and his aims. He is a marxist and his aims are marxist...from the economy, to our military, to foreign policy, to social issues.

Understanding that lets you read Obama regardless of what words he speaks.

OBAMA, THE STOCK MARKET, AND ENERGY

I think he lied a lot as you said, but I also think he is learning an awful lot about reality in the past weeks and months.

For much of the campaign he sounded like an ivory tower elite or idealist college student because he simply does not have enough real world experience to be able generate real solutions to real problems. Now, he is dealing with these problems in real time. IMO, this is scary to have such a newbie in this position. That said, his selections so far for cabinet and advisers are about as good as we could have hoped. On the whole, he is not filling the White House with other newbie and far lefties, but those with practical experience.

Since liberals have no convictions, the means to the end is whatever it takes. Say or do whatever it takes to gain power. I want my tax cut, LOL!!

Obama and many others suffer from Asst.Manager syndrome. They have all the answers until they are asked to run the store. Reality sucks.

That is a positive sign. But they still want to steal your money and children, so I plan to apply the same amount of goodwill to them as was given to Bush.

That is, I wish Obama to be ridiculed and ostracized because he really is a life and death threat. A lot of soldiers will needlessly die because of this idiot, as well as unborn and many others.

What’s with all the news conferences and that stupid “Office of the President Elect” sign. This guy is clueless. I think he thinks he has been crowned the king

Wait till he has to deal with "Pooty-Poot" Putin. We've got an affirmative action Ivy League lawyer, with a chief of staff that thinks he's "Don Corleone" dealing with a KGB thug who has killed many men in order to get and stay in power.

Obama better keep wearing dark pants so when he cr#ps his shorts, it won't show.

His entire campaign was a lie. The truth came out rarely amd only accidentally...like spreading the wealth around.

I think his four years is going to be shambolic. He doesn’t have any experience and he doesn’t really know how to convert his ideas into reality.

On that basis, I suggest look for the power-behind-the-throne, the hand-up-the-backside-of-the-sockpuppet.

Who might that be? Michelle? Could be: she at least has *some* experience. I’m going to guess it will be someone in the political sphere, tho’. But who...?

"Obama may decide he wants to keep the road open in certain cases for the CIA to use techniques not approved by the military, but with much greater oversight."

This means, "...just run it by me before you do it, and if anybody finds out what happened, I´ll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat. Thanks."

Has any previous President-elect had such a podium shield made up for themselves? I don't recall Bush or even Clinton having such a thing.

Les Aspin was the classic example. He made a career out of criticizing DoD management/leadership. He gets named SecDef and makes “politically correct decisions” that get soldiers killed in Mogadishu... The pressure is too much and eventually he dies pretty much as a “broken man”.

The “practical experience” of which you speak was to earn a commission for getting us in the mess we are in.

Obama has such wonderful charisma that these rats on the sinking ship will praise Obama’s name when they jump into the deep blue sea.
