LONDON (AP) - A woman has told a British court she accidentally flushed her newborn down the toilet because she didn't realize she was giving birth. Claire Jones says she knew she was pregnant from an affair with a colleague but thought the pain she suffered in the early hours of Dec. 28 was from diarrhea.
Jones told a coroner's court in Cardiff, Wales, on Monday that she only realized what had happened when she saw a foot in the toilet bowl.
She said she tried unsuccessfully to revive the baby and then put the body in the trunk of her car.
The corpse was found in Jones' vehicle after she was arrested. She was given a suspended sentence for concealing the baby's birth.
The coroner's court is investigating the circumstances of the baby's death.

OK you gals and OB/GYN’s....how plausible is this woman’s story.Seems pretty far fetched to me but I’m just a fella without a medical degree.

BTW you cannot flush a newborn down the toilet.

I can’t speak for every woman in the world but its been my experience that you OMG for SURE know when you are in labor. NO mistaking it for anything else!!!
And what about the big ol splash that a full term baby must have made? did she think it just sounded like a really big turd?

Well - considering that the UK is encouraging greater numbers of women to abort their unborn children, particularly if there is any chance at all that the child has any sort of “defect”... why is she in trouble?
On the flip side... unless she is horrendously mentally retarded (which I don’t believe is the case since she can communicate and go to the bathroom on her own, and apparently is able to own and drive a car), there is NO WAY she didn’t know she was giving birth.

Far fetched, it’s just beyond belief. I have never believed those woman (I don’t care how fat you are, you feel a baby moving INSIDE OF YOU) and although labor feels like gas to begin with, I can’t imagine pushing a child out like a constipated movement.
Come on guys! You’ve seen your wives give birth, you really they are just faking it and it’s as simple as this woman claims?

As the mother of 5 and an OB nurse that has witnessed countless births, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Yeah, right it was gi pain.
I certainly think that when it came out you would have a big clue what it was, especially if you knew you were pregnant!

I really am not trying to be a pest, I am just confused on how I am getting on the sidebar.
Ok, after doing a walk through post (without actually posting), is this under “Topics”? I was hitting breaking news and I got a mail saying “not everything breaking news”. So I haven’t clicked breaking news, but you say that news/activism is also wrong.
So if I make a post, I will not hit breaking news or news/activism. Please let me know if I am right or wrong. I mailed back someone about the breaking news, but never heard back.

I know of one woman years ago who was huge and didn't know she was pregnant and thought she was having severe heart burn when she delivered a live baby.
Also, in my own 3rd pregnancy I went into labor and delivered to the astonishment of the entire birthing floor an absolutly painless, no drugs whatsoever, full term birth (7.8 lbs) and went home 6 hours later wearing size 6 jeans.
The not knowing she was in labor part is within the realm of possibility, but not knowing a 7 lb object just dropped into the toilet is not. A full term baby head will not go through a toilet.
