Any lingering hopes that some parts of the world economy, particularly the fast-growing emerging markets such as China, would remain immune to the crisis were snuffed out. This is the most telling sign of drowing victim grasping for a straw. Chimerica, the unholy union of China and America, has to die. Each participant in this union was banking on the unsustainable scenario.

Why do I get the feeling that all of this doom and gloom build up is to make Obama look like a hero if and when things turn around?

If he take credit for any temporary bounce, he sets himself for a bigger fool when things go down again.
I don't think such a game is at play now. If it is, it would be suicidal.

All the doom and gloom is because the vast majority of people are sheep. Those who were predicting financial crisis even two years ago were openly mocked. Now its become “mainstream opinion”.

Hang on to your seats fellas, it is starting to look like this really is going to be a bumpy ride.
Oddly enough, I hope to keep my internet service, even if only dial up when things get tough. I want to be able to get information. That is until Obama sets up the black box like Australia just did and UK is trying to do and monitors everything we do.

I agree...Where's the "little train that could"??
Remember, this was propogated with the Dems and their: Drill....NEVER--------COAL....NEVER-------
All we got out of them was WIND-----HOT AIR.
And they ruined a whole segment of the economy with the corn for fuel fiasco. Bunch of....well, you know...

And, Bush and McCain were among those warning that the bad loans could cause these problems.

Our nation can get through this. There is no question of that.
The question is how long will it take,, how long until real Americans stand up and say “Enough!”
There will always be business to do. There will always be houses to build. If government can be made to get out of the way,, things can turn around very quickly. It doesn’t matter if the rest of the world is crumbling,, as long as America remains free and strong. The world will eventually follow or be lifted by the rising tide of America.
The rallying cry of the all the future Republican candidates needs to be “Repeal and Eliminate!”
Repeal bad laws! Repeal taxes! Repeal regulations! Eliminate waste, fraud and unneeded government departments!
I don’t want to hear about some new law! This country does not need a single new law,, except for one,, I will give you!! Tort reform!

When February 17th rolls along and we're ALL totally digital...You can bet they're "with you"...
Wouldn't be surprised if ALL NETWORKS will carry a weekly Presidential Address...and NOTHING else can get through on your TV.

Temporary drops in prices are unlikely to have that effect. But Mr Brigden thinks the combination of falls in commodity and house prices with weak demand means that US headline inflation is likely to go negative next spring and stay that way for months, dropping as low as minus 3 per cent. When deflation goes on for the best part of a year, expectations are more likely to become entrenched, he says.We definitely are seeing deflation right now. How long it will continue is the $64,000 question.
Our deficit is becoming a drag and if Obama gets what he wants in terms of fiscal policy, will be a much bigger drag. At some time, perhaps within the year, our bond ratings could be cut and that will have a significant impact on the US. The solutions will be more taxes, stop spending, default or devalue the dollar.
Stopping US gov't spending aint gonna happen!
If the dollar is devalued, inflation is certain to set in.

That is why we cannot rule out high inflation as a possible future, because unlike Great Depresison of 30’s, U.S. has additional risk of sovereign default.

Sac, you know, I think you may be right. That digital is more of a way to control what goes out over the airways than just improving technology.
I may keep an old TV set for some piracy underground communication. And I’m not joking.
I also think I want to invest in a Ham radio except I wouldn’t even know how to start to buy one, much less operate one.

And, Bush and McCain were among those warning that the bad loans could cause these problems.I think one of Bush's biggest failures was that he didn't use his bully pulpit to communicate with the American people. He "made nice" with the Dems too often.

I still find it interesting that most economist cling to models that clearly do not work anymore. There a many here on FR who came to the same conclusion over two years ago. The article acts like it is a big surprise that the shell game cannot continue.

What kinda tipped me off was: I have 3 TV's but I'm not hooked to cable. I got the TWO coupons per household. I went back for 2 more.
They said I already had two. Okay..I believe they scan your name, the box ID...the whole ball of wax...Trust me, they are "with you"...
Kinda same thing as the internet...People find you...You're a name, an account, a SS no, an address...And ten to 1....GPS is attached to every unit.
