Pennsylvanians are "clinging to their guns" more tightly since the election of Barack Obama. Gun and ammunition sales are way up according to local dealers.
"We absolutely have seen an increase. We've more than doubled our normal sales of guns and ammunition," said Jere Dunkelberger, owner of Dunkelberger's Sports Outfitter in Stroudsburg. He says the emphasis is on home and self-protection weapons.
Related Stories NRA tells appeals court Philly can't have gun laws Dunkelberger noticed gun sales shot up about four days before the election. "Election day it cooled off a little bit. Since then, we've been very busy," he said.
Same thing in Brodheadsville, where American Sport Shooting owner Richard Flynn has seen an 80 percent increase of gun sales starting a week before the election. "People are stockpiling ammunition too," Flynn said.
And it goes beyond Pennsylvania. "We have seen the same anecdotal evidence across the country. This trend began in the weeks leading up to the election," said National Rifle Association spokesperson Ashley Varner.
The rush to arms is based on fear of restrictions an Obama's administration may put on gun ownership, plus taxes that could be placed on ammunition.
"The other thing that has people concerned is talk of a civilian security force equally funded as the military. Run by him, I guess. We see that as the Gestapo," Flynn said.

Ammunition will be the next underground currency ... buy it while you can .... somewhere I heard a 500% tax on guns and ammo ...
We have a new sporting goods store that is well stocked with guns and ammo. Our son told us about it so hubby and I went for a visit this past weekend. You couldn’t even get to the gun counter there were so many people there. I hope they were all buyin’!!
Like most of you, I saw the videos. I'm not going to let it happen here.
I've lost faith in my fellow Americans....
If they’re clinging to their guns so hard then why the heck did those fools vote for Obama? I’m sorry, but a big screw you to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan!
FWIW, a lot of people from NY and NJ call PA home as it is cheaper than the cost of living there. And when they relocate here, they bring their liberal beliefs with them. Doesn’t explain everything, but some of it.
All I can say is “Buy Buy Buy!”
JoMa
IGITS! How could 2/3 of their state go vote for him and then be like “Oh we better go buy some guns before we can’t”...IGITS! Unless this story is about the 1/3 that voted for Palin, then it makes sense.
I was looking at my new gun cleaning kit this past weekend, admiring the art work on the cardboard around the box. The scene was of an old man showing a young boy how to clean a gun. I thought to myself “Wow, look how wholesome and American this box art really is...and this is what they want to take from us...SCREW THEM!”
I do get that, because they did that in North Carolina too this year. I think I’m most mad at Pennsylvania and Ohio because what the heck are the residents there doing electing people who are stealing the citizens votes? Why isn’t Philly called on the carpet by residents across the state? will Ohioans re-elect Brunher? and anyone who had a part in stealing their votes?
>Im sorry, but a big screw you to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan!
Well, Ohio might have a bit of an excuse with their vote-counters being allowed/required to count the ACORN votes.
Yep. Pretty much every dime of discretionary income I have is going into ammo right now.
Well except that RCBS reloading starter kit I got on layaway...so that’s indirectly ammo too.

Interesting. But I’m also looking for bullet molds, 5.7 x 28 to be specific.
I’m sorry, I can tell by you name you are from PA but I have to ask, Why didn’t y’all think about this on Nov. 4th?
Take a look at the county maps of Ohio and PA, etc before you give us “all” a big screw. I don’t appreciate it.
I could say that your state probably voted 45% for Bambi, does that make you a bad person.
Don’t forget FL. I will not be going there for Spring Break with my family and we (my son’s baseball team, 12 families plus grandparents), will not be going there for the World Series. We are going to South Carolina instead.
Well said, most of the state is indeed red.

The big city of Philly is difficult to overcome, esp when turnout was as strong as it was this year. Add to this the fact that many from NJ and NY now live in PA because of the lower costs (bringing their liberal views with them) and it is not as cut and dry as many make it out to be.
Our primary isn't until April so we had absolutely no say in nominating arguably the weakest Repub candidate We also have a large segment of union workers who do what their union tells them to do period. They can't think for themselves.
Let's not forget FL, NC, NV. We didn't do it alone. Enough blame to go around.
