Sign Outside Business Reads "From The Ghetto To The White House"

OCALA, Fla. -- The owners of an Ocala business are accused of taking a racist swipe at president-elect Barack Obama. The NAACP of Florida calls the message on the company's marquee "horrific" and "insensitive."

Last year, the same fence company and auto shop was accused of using its sign to ridicule people with disabilities. What they've posted now, some call free speech and others call an outrage.

"That's like racist right there," one resident told Eyewitness News.

"Why do they feel like they have the right to just put it out there. There's kids that come by here. There's a high school," another person said.

(The company) eventually sent out an African American employee who said his boss is no racist. "Me being a black guy, a black guy can be president, a black guy can put a thing up on a sign, he can do whatever he wants," the man said.

The president of Florida's NAACP begs to differ, calling the statement insensitive and horrific.

The company puts a different message on its sign every week.

It’s not the classiest thing I’ve ever seen, but people are getting tired of being called “racists” for making just about any criticism of Obama. Obama may not have come from a ghetto, but he sure hangs with a bunch of thugs.

Wonder what the local ACLU will say about freedom of speech? Is the word “ghetto” only a “black” word? Oh, that’s right, us poor whites have “trailer trash” or in the case of Murtha’s district, we own “really redneck” or ahem, “racist”.

And why showing how anyone can go far or dream a racist issue? Perhaps the guy was commenting on the fact that black people have now achieved what MLK dreamed and how that was a good thing. Of course, I am just speculating and don’t know the man but these people need to get a life.

The book or movie part also could be seen as a comment on Hollywood or Lifetime TV who makes movies on everything and every cause to the point of it cheapens great accomplishments. The man doesn’t sound racist but rather jaded.

How about next week they put up a new one:

The mulatto entering the White House is entertaining bids to paint the place gray.

Actually I think what we are seeing is the first wave of America testing to see how far they can call something what it is without being called racist, not good but it is something that’s old history.

Wasn’t Jesse Jackson’s slogan “From the Outhouse to the White House” or somesuch, when he ran for president back in the eighties? Oh, and when did President-elect Obama ever live in a ghetto? He had a middle-class upbringing, from what I’ve read of his biography.

Well I don’t think it’s a great thing to say but plenty of awful stuff has been said about Bush and lots of people thought that was fine. Heck, they were going to name a sewage treatment plant after W. So I guess lowlifes come from both sides of the spectrum.

Hey, I live in Ocala! I would love to know what business this is so that I can give them some of my business. LOL

Yes, there are some rednecks here in Ocala. There is nothing wrong with rednecks. They have just as much sense or more so than libtards! A lot of these rednecks have fought for our country so anyone downing them better back off!

Let me just say that regardless of how the Florida vote went down Ocala (Marion county) voted by a majority for McCain-Palin. So we are NOT stupid! Although being a multi-generation native Floridian I am ashamed of my state.

Those darn liberal retirees did us in...........j/k! LOL

I agree that there was and is a lot of hateful things being said about President Bush (and Laura Bush) and VP Cheney.

It will come from the other side too. You can’t expect to give it for 8 years and not have it flung back at some point.

I don’t do it myself but I do find myself chuckling at it since I have endured so much crap for the past 8 years of hearing conservatives trashed at every turn.

Everyone should lighten up. Laugh a little. It’s the only bright spot we have now that we are looking at a 4 year Obama “rule”. :)

So what? Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall, communist radical parents, Black Liberation movement, no proven track record of any accomplishment... and on it goes.

The man-child is delusional. He is an idiot. Bringing back the disasterous socialism of the 1930’s is nothing but lunacy.

Yeah, isn’t that rich? The libs have pulled no punches and have savaged and ravaged and lied through their rotten teeth about President Bush for eight long years and now they want to go, “It’s all good!”

No way. The only bright spot I see is watching Obama’s followers begin to unravel one by one when they realize that they bought snake oil from a flim-flam man. Too bad the rest of us have to take that ride too.

is’nt this also a test of the tolerant liberal who
proclaim first ammendment rights for anything wildly
radical?

What will happen under Obama is the “monitoring”
of speech. This is not my theory but comes out of the distinguished Senator from New York Chuck Schumer or shyster... whatever.

Right. It may not be classy and some may consider it poor taste. One thing it is not is racist. Regardless of how much the NAACP whines.

Heck, they should be happy. We’re finally getting a Bojangles down here!

It sure is! They can put crap (or urine) on a picture of Jesus hang it in a museum and call it art. We have to tolerate it as free speech. But heaven forbid you offend a liberal. All hell breaks loose and you are called names as they run screaming for the ACLU!

One thing I’ve learned is that liberals think they are the only ones entitled to free speech!

"The NAACP of Florida calls the message on the company's marquee "horrific" and "insensitive."

What BS.. That's exactly the image Michelle Obama was spreading all over Media, poor little baby Obama had nothing and nobody loved him. She even had her kids cuddling around her with fake little tears forming in one interview.

And What next a movie? Is a legitimate question with all the media swooning and Messiah worship, mountain naming etc. going on.

He can differ all he likes, but the guy from the company is right.
