Loser As Mediator
IBD Editorials ^ | November 6, 2008

Congress: Some of the most partisan liberal Democrats have a brilliant idea on how to roll the Republicans in the Obama era: enlist John McCain as their go-between. For principled Republicans, that's a bridge to nowhere.

Charles Schumer, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, has apparently fallen short of the filibuster-proof supermajority for Senate Democrats he aimed for, though several races remain in limbo awaiting recount or runoff. But he's talking up another way of ramming a radical agenda through Congress and onto soon-to-be President Obama's desk.

"There's a need for the old John McCain, a leader who worked in a bipartisan way," New York's Schumer said Wednesday, raising the notion of McCain serving as a kind of mediator between Democrats and Republicans on contentious legislation.

Now let's translate that into straight talk. "The old John McCain" is not the John McCain who campaigned in favor of keeping the Bush tax cuts, for instance; he's the one who voted against the Bush tax cuts, echoing Democrats' claims that they were giveaways to the rich and nearly dooming their passage.

Well, McCain would be the perfect one. I don’t imagine, though, that they’re going to have much trouble getting our aisle-crossers to go along, just offer enough pork. It’l fit right in with their socialist agenda.

I remember Mark Levin saying something like "The only time we should reach out to the democrats is to slap them beside the head."

We had all the involvement we’ll be allowed when we voted for them and put them there. Now they’re members of the club, and we’re no longer needed.

The young conservative survivors of the Nov. 4 massacre should slap down any of the toothless Old GOP Guard whose ineptitude led to said massacre. That the shopworn “leaders” such as Boehner should even think of continuing in that role shows how clueless they are.

Absolutely! His first order of business: completely and uterly trash Sara Palin as if she were the bigest mistake he ever made. Second order of business, give all the Democrats in the Senate a "Lewinsky" tp appease them. Last order of business to be the next Colonoscopy Powell and turn his back and sell out his party. Hey, he wants back on his good friend Letterman and SNL regularily.

Put McCain’s number on your cellphone and save it. Call him to bitch, complain, moan and groan and keep it up. Our Rep senators should filibuster everything they put in front of us. We need to learn, and quick. No, no, and more no.

“Guarantee he is selling us out”

He sold out Sarah who he chose personally as his running mate after she worked tirelessly and under withering criticism from opponents and his committee to help his anemic campaign, so what makes us think he will be loyal to anonymous us? I'm beginning to think that God blessed us with the lesser of two evils in Obama after watching how disloyal McCain is to his lady fox hole ally.

"Prediction...He will soon do a Colin Powell on Meet The Press."

And/Or "his good friend" Bob Sheifer on Deface the Nation. I agree with your prediction that McCain will try and be the media darling of all the MSM shows like Meet the Depressed Fox News Sunday, Geore Snuff-a-lot-of-gas show with Kookie and George and all... I bet he trasshes or contnue to trash Sarah Paslin.

Perhaps, the PBS scene too like Bill Moyers, Front Line and Charlie Rose...

BTW, who is taking over for Brokejaw on Meet the Depressed? I thought his time is up after the election.

I have heard that it was NOT McCain who sold out Sarah Palin. In fact, and I’m trying to remember which commentator said it, they attributed to McCain a very high and warm regard for Palin. They also left the notion that McCain did not know the sniping against her was going on.

Do I believe that? Possibly. It depends on his leadership style. If he’s a micromanager, no way he didn’t know it. If he’s an idea guy & decision maker with staff doing all the leg work, then it’s like he was out of the loop on this one.

And he’s a bit older.....

I heard a comment from Palin today, and she was totally 100% positive toward John McCain and very appreciative. Whether true or not, she showed great class in giving the right impression.

Don't feel like the lone sucker of "The Sting" We were all suckered.

For me, it was Governor Sarah Palin that made me go from sitting it out to actually being energized...plus the SC Justice appointments and the possible Vietnam scenario for Iraq and Afghsnistan that scared me about Obamannation's Marxist agenda.

I admit, I was hosed! However, I'm actually releived that McCain lost and hopefully Sarah will recover from being choked by McLaim and go back to enjoying 80% approval as Alaska's governor. We need here for this term and the next term as the energy state's governor.

Now, I want to join the rebuild effort for 2010 and 2012 when America begs for their "change" back! And "hope" for the real and true Conservatives to take control of a sinking ship...or a slavage effort of a sunken one.

It has been all over the news and all the commentators have reviewed it. The insults from inside his camp could not possibly have escaped McCain. Any commander worth his salt would have put a stop to the insubordination by now and issued a public statement supporting one of his loyal troops.

Sarah has demonstrated the courage and grace of a Christian under persecution and is an example to us all. She also has bigger bal-s than the wimp!!

I said I would never vote for him during the primary after the things he has done over the last 20 years and I didn't. I would rather the Republican lose and election that vote for a RINO.

Of course McCain knows it NOW. My point is that he might not have known it during the campaign.

Now, the right thing for McCain to do is to slam the folks bad-mouthing Palin.

She is showing real class.
